Just thought id see what some people thought about this.. Everytime I move that broadcast sheet little pieces fall off and turn to dust. LOL So what do you all think about getting it laminated?

Go to the stationary store and get a plastic sleeve for it. Put it in and don't touch it again... do not laminate!

I like to put them between two pieces of plexiglas and tape the edges of the plexi to keep air out.

You could make a copy or two, I did, and use them if you want to show other people? Keep the original in a safe place not to be moved till necessary. If you go the plastic sleeve way, use a piece of Acid Free cardboard larger then the build sheet as a stiffener.

No Lami ,....X2 on the sleeve.

I made a few photo copies of mine to view and handle if needed.  Also put a pic of it on my pc for viewing too. Haven't handled the original for maybe 10 or more yrs.

Not that my car has one, but I agree with every statement above about a build sheet.   :2thumbs:

I have some "one off" items, treated like above and also stored in a fireproof box, in a temp controlled area...    :Twocents:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

I never thought to make copies and never touch the original again, GREAT idea!
wingless now, but still around.

x3, I also scanned mine to the computer.

Yeah, do not laminate. Laminating plastic ages terribly.

Scan in the computer and store in an Avery sheet protector. Look for the version that is acid free. They come in a pack of 10 for a couple bucks. Be sure it is acid free.

If you are one of those types that has to display it at shows. just take a high res scan to a Kinkos type place and have them make one that is laminated for display.

Old Moparz

If you guys hate lamination you'll just love this one. Many years ago I covered a rare build sheet for a 1968 Coronet RT convertible that was falling apart, with clear packing tape on both sides.  :smilielol:

I wouldn't do that now, but it is what it is.

I wish I had my build sheet
:shruggy:

Me too.. for my 'Bee. Owned since new in the family and no sheets. Suspect it was under the original front bench seat that I took out as a teen in 1979 and put in buckets. Seat was stolen from Mom's garage before I got smart in 1989 to put it back original. Took a long time to find another bench seat for the front.

No sheets under back seat or above glove box. Don't remember any "dust" under the carpet!  :rotz:

Pulled my BS out of the back seat in Oct 83 and put it in a 1973 4 page Lakewood installation instructions (like a folder) that I got from my older brother in the summer of 76. Been there ever sense.  In 1991 I inserted that folder between page 52 & 53 of a Broadcast News article in the Nov issue of High Performance Mopar. Went to check  :hah: & it's still there.

I pulled the very crispy broadcast sheet out from under the rear seat bottom of my 1971 Charger R/T.
It wasn't destroyed by mice, but time and heat did a number on it.
Initially I put it in a plastic sleeve and stored it in a binder. However, it continued to crumble, and every time I looked at it there would be more crumbs in the bottom of the sleeve. It reminded me of DaVinci's "Last Supper" painting which was full of holes.
Eventually I took an 8.5" x 11" sheet of black construction paper and a glue stick, and using a pair of tweezers, I reassembled it on the black paper.
Now its affixed to the backing, but it's not laminated.
If I want to remove it, I can heat it up over a steam kettle to release the glue.
But I doubt I'll ever do that.

why not laminate it   :shruggy:

Because the plastic deteriorates. And it also contains acid that will destroy paper in time. Maybe not next year, but it will happen eventually. If lamination was a permanent solution, museums would be using it to preserve old paper.

The great thing is archival quality materials are easy to get. Just take a moment, do it right and it will outlive your grandchildren.
