Howdy Fellas,

I have a '68 Base Model Charger.  I bought it and it had shaved drip rails to include the piece of sheet metal that the drip rail sits on... AMD makes the part but has been out of stock for sometime with no expected arrival date.  Am I going to be stuck buying a parts car and disassembling that to get the part I need... or is this something I can fab up myself?  In end state I'll need something for the side glass to rest against when the windows are up.  Thanks for your help.

You, me and a lot of other people.  Fail from AMD!  :icon_smile_angry:
If you're a skilled metal worker you can make them yourself.

TXCharger68

not sure how perfect it would have to be... it seems that piece is going to be covered by the weather stripping.  I'm going for a clean look on my Charger a resto-mod option.

Lennard

If you're doing a restomod, why not leave them off?

TXCharger68

yes the drip rail trim will not be put back on.  But doesn't the trim moulding piece need to be attached in order to attach the weatherstripping so the door glass has something to rest against when the window is rolled up?  I'll try and find a pic and post.... thanks for the help.

Lennard

No, drip rails aren't needed. I can't post pictures here but google Mr. Angry charger and you'll see.

TXCharger68

The "Angry Charger" is the look I'm going for.  I'm not sure how to mount the weatherstrip without the moulding...

Lennard

Your arrow is not pointing at the drip rail molding. It's the top one. The only function it has is keeping water from dripping on you,  hence it's name. The one you're pointing at can be mounted without any problems when the drip rails are eliminated because they screw mount from the direction that your arrow is pointing.

TXCharger68

ok so if i understand you correctly... the weatherstrip will screw into the roof skin?  I apologize if that sounds like an ignorant question... it just doesnt seem like there is enough metal there for a screw to hold the weatherstrip on.

Lennard

No need to apologies.  If I remember correctly the roof seal sits in the aluminum strip that is screwed into the roof...but it's been 6 years since I took my charger apart. Bottom line is, you don't need drip rails to mount your weather seals. ;)

TXCharger68

ok very cool.... so no need for these.

Lennard

I think you do need those cause I think they go between the aluminum molding and the roof. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge about this will confirm that.   ;D

TXCharger68

ok... cool.  The search continues. Maybe AMD will get some in... or I'm going to have to buy a "parts" car to strip off parts.  Do you have any sources for MOPAR parts?  It seems I have searched to the end of the internet  :brickwall:

Lennard

Oh, I thought the picture showed rubber pieces... but they are the amd metal drip rails. Hard to see on my phone screen.   No, you don't need those.  Sorry for the confusion I'm creating  :slap:

TXCharger68

I bought the rubber from Steele.  The complete kit.  So if I understand correctly the top of the glass, when rolled up will fit inside the rubber and not bounce/rattle around.

Lennard

That is correct.  Eliminating the drip rails doesn't effect any weather stripping functions.

TXCharger68

ok I'll give it a shot... thanks for the help. This is my Charger, 1968 - 440 bored out to 452, 727 torqueflight tranny, Ford 9"...

Lennard

Very nice,  all it needs is a Mopar rear axle and wheel well moldings. ;D
