its been 100 years since the great uprising  , Easter 1916 to be precise .

may all who died during the "troubles"  between then and the 90's rest in peace and be remembered with honour this Easter

Don't hold your breath waiting for many responses.  We Americans somehow found a way to stop teaching/learning history in our schools years ago, and especially don't care about learning any world history.  How very unfortunate.

I think the Rebellion (aka the Rising) narrative is only passed along thru the generations of the Irish.

(I'm not Irish, but my Lithuanian and Polish ancestors fought off the Russians and Soviets for centuries, so I get it).

Being a student of history is a good thing, but you're  not being fair.  Our secondary education system is not responsible Irish history much beyond the wretched refuse of your teeming shores.  And there's nothing wrong with those who leave the old country in the old country.

I enjoyed history but with a narrow spectrum and overly specific on a few centuries and slightly smoothed and narrowed down of others, its sad and getting worse :rotz:

talking about the Easter rebellion which was the start of  the insurrection against English rule  , easter 1916(24 April 1916)  and didn't end until  1998 with a few ceasefires in-between  but was at its worst betwwen 68 and 98  :yesnod:

and as I understand it there are certain professions  that were  predominantly Irish for years last century , and they played a substantial part in forming your country's law enforcement as it is today  .
