77 vette platform for street rod.

Anyone know  of anyone using 77 vette and removing body  installing like a chopped coupe .  Have a chance to get a chasis in very good painted rebuilt condition. The body has been customized to far to bring back (why would you want to  )The chasis has got 4link suspension disc brakes rack pinion steering lots of good options for a street rod.   Would like to see something someone has done ,before I consider anymore.  moparnut.

The corvette chassis is very wide in the mid section, what kind of body do you want to slap on it?

thanks for the replie baldwinvette77,Im very flexable on the body.  Have only started thinking about a use for this car. My buddy has the frame painted candy apple pearl  with a pin stripe,completely rebuilt everything looks better than new.Now for the bad he split the front fenders and installed a electric scissor jack.the whole front clip picks up.  Then he went over the rear glass with fiberglass and turned it into a split window coupe.  Everything is painted and looks good,however the fiberglass work is starting to show stress cracks especially around back window.Fuel pump leaked ,filled oil pan and he seized it up just sitting in the driveway.  Needless to say he is frustrated and would like to sell.  But it never was real valuable  and now that all the custom stuff is done it would be a tough sell.  Crate motor and the right body could make a nice street rod.  moparnut

Split window 77? strange, you could always cut the roof off and stick on a roadster top like all the corvette racecars of the era or no top at all.

the weird thing about the corvette is that the frame rails run under the rockers, unlike most cars where the frame runs just inside of the rockers, so its a bit wider there, it could make a cool hotrod though, but it would be a shame to scar up the paint on the frame.. ohwell

It's a ground-up project.  One way or another you will end up spending 5 figures before it's wearing license plates.  If it's not exactly the car you really want then stay clear of it.

Tell your buddy that his best options are:

#1 - Sell everything as-is.  Take the big frustrating loss as a lesson learned about customizing.  

#2 - Undo the altered bodywork enough that potential buyers won't be scared away from the body.  Don't finish & paint it, just remove the scary stuff.  (If it looks like 'Corvette Summer' then buyers will run from it no matter how easily the changes could be undone.  Unfamiliar problems scare people more than common problems.)  Take the big frustrating loss as a lesson learned about customizing.

Hey I love that car! just for it's cool "goofyness" and right hand drive,...Seriously though if you grew up in the 60"s and 70's that was the norm for over the top customs
