The 1970 B Body 4-speed, console have always been my favorite. I sold a Charger R/T with one about 10 years ago and kicked myself ever since. Although I now have an automatic console Bird it occurred to me tonight I have seen pictures of 4 speed birds (no console) with buckets or bench seats, and console birds with automatics, but I have not seen a picture of a 4-speed bird with a console.

Did they make any? I know this is a dumb question to some of you guys, but humor me please-maybe I need a new goal-someone, anyone have one? And if so, anyone know of one for sale-I am going to sell my AAR and that money would go a long way towards it!

Thanks
Bob J

On a related, yet not related note...  are the shifters the same for a console and non-console 4-speed?  I ask because my (eventual) "birdible" is currently a bench-seat-non-console-4-speed, and I hope to someday turn it into a bucket-seat-console-4-speed car...    (:slap: for excessive dash usage)

A383Wing

pretty sure the shifter handles are different between console and non-console...mainly because of the offset difference between the hump and shifter plate hole

moparsr2fast

Bryan is correct, shifter handles are entirely different between a console and nonconsole car.

Aha.  Thanks.  Maybe I'll stick... :eek2:  with the floor shift and find the buddy-seat-middle-thingy.  ( another  :slap:)

The difference is like day and night, the badass shifter is the console model

I haven't driven my Superbird yet, but if the difference is like my former '69 Charger 500 with a console 4speed, it is like night and day. The console shifter on my '69 C500 was great........ I am hoping the console shifting on the '70 will be the same.......

My 'Bird has no tach or clock in it either, but then again it is a console slush box vs a standard.

When I bought my Tor-Red 4 speed console Superbird new it did not have a tach or radio. I asked the salesman if I bought the car would he put a radio and clock/tach in. He said ok so I signed the papers, traded in my 1964 Cadillac and gave him $5.00 cash to seal the deal.( $5.00 was all I had on me at the time). I still have the car and the receipt!!

moparchris

At the time the factory tachs were considered "garbage" by serious gear heads.  Why spend the money on the turd factory tach when they were going to put a Stewert-Warner tach in it the 1st week they owned it?

Troy, if your shifter is going to be mounted to an 833, then it will feel like rowing a boat with the console shift,......if it's mounted to a TKO600 5spd (hint, hint) the substantially shorter throw and added 5th gear is a blessing

here's my console pistol grip TKO600 5 spd

Gary, what's with the seat belt clip on the bottom portion of the console?

that clip is for the seat belt buckle to snap onto to stop the belt from laying on the seat or the floor....dealer installed if I remember

That particular function is positioned at the base of the bottom seat cushion in 69. I don't believe that item was placed on the bottom of '70-up seats. I have owned a few '70 B-bodies with consoles and none had that on the console..

4spd without a tach and just a curved stick out of the floor....nothing crooked here!

Is that console with the seat belt retainer a C body thing?
wingless now, but still around.

GOTWING

a lot of guys installed their own aftermarket more accurate tach on the column anyway. Our Sbird has an old suntach inside the cluster where the factory one would have been, actually works great. ( was already like that when we found it )

My bird is a C16 (Console) car, so I cannot see why it would have been swapped? (but who knows).
