How do you change the starter on a 1974 dodge charger 400 2 barrel carb

A383Wing

disconnect battery, jack up car, place jack stands under car, remove the 2 battery & solenoid wires to starter, remove the 2 bolts or nuts that hold starter to bellhousing......reverse procedure to install

a service manual will have this info in it

Sorry let me rephrase that how do I get to the top bolt on the starter. It seems no direct way to that bolt without removing other parts.

John_Kunkel

A 5/8" socket on a long extension is the easiest way to get the top bolt; it's a little off of a direct shot but the socket will fit the bolt well enough to loosen it or if you're patient enough, a starter wrench.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

A "wobble" extension at that!  :yesnod:

A box wrench fits mine without any problem, no need to remove other parts

Yep, long extension with wobble drive. And with wobble drive, preferably used a 6 point socket.
