Hi Guys

Sorry I don't have any pictures but I'm trying to find a good estimate of the value of a 1968 charger. Here is some of the details:

-darker green with a white vinyl top.

-white interior

-No dents and no rust only minor scratches and light fading

-it is unmolested

-Has always been stored inside garage

-It runs and drives

-It is a complete car

-318 with column shift automatic. I was told the engine is an original numbers matching but I have not verified it

-Bench seat with fold down center

-is in good shape but shows the usual wear and tear of an older car- cracks on the door panel upper pads... Etc.

This is something I may try and give an offer on and I am hoping you guys could help me determine a fair value.

Ok. It may be some other type of seat that I am not familiar with. Looked kind of like low back buckets but with a seat in the middle that folded down for an arm rest.I thought it was some type of bench seat.

The '68 had a "fixed center cushion and folding center armrest" available. Not a bench seat.  ;)

I have had pretty good results using hagerty as a means of establishing a good starting point for price. I bought a couple of 60 ' s Era cars using the hagerty website as a starting point.

A couple sellers that I've come across use Barret Jackson and eBay of all places to set a price which considering the cars sold through Barret Jackson are usually of a much higher quality than what a couple private sellers had for sale. I came across a 1970 charger that the asking price was about 3 times what it was actually worth. 25 thousand for a 318 column shift green on green with every panel dented with rust and full of holes no interior trunk pan gone and floor metal gone nor anything working right. The motor turned over but you couldn't drive it but the seller insisted that it was a daily driver therefore the price was just.

You could always ask what the seller would be looking for price wise before making an offer.

That would be exactly the car I'd want. Unmolested. Everything else doesn't matter as much. They can have rust and worn out interiors but it drives me crazy to find hacked up wiring, mismatched "performance" parts and a handful of backyard repairs by toothless Joe and his cronies.

My 69 was pretty untouched and it had been a SB car so it was perfect for my needs. Yours may be different. In today's market I'd likely pay north of $20K for that car.

Got pics?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Agree 100% and 150% on "hacked up wiring" that I am dealing with now.

Good advice. Thank you!

Good stuff. I agree about the preference for an unmolested car. That is big with me too.

No pictures available yet. I am just trying to figure out what it is worth so I can determine if I can make a fair offer on the car....

20k-30k.

From what I've seen green cars a bit cheaper than the rest. Green interior as well. Though I personally don't like it either, many people do, but I'd say the majority doesn't, so u can bargain.

Have you seen pictures or the car itself? It's hard to give an accurate estimate without more info, pics or seeing it in person. I think the 1st estimate of 15-25K sounds about right which probably doesn't help you much. I agree you should ask the person selling what they want. Regardless, if it is a good deal, it will probably go fast so don't beat around the bush. Go see it, take pics and keep us updated. Good Luck!

I have seen it in person. I have made arrangements to see it again when the weather clears up. It isn't posted for sale but they are open to discuss it. Thanks for the suggestions!

70 sublime

What it is worth and what they will sell it for may be 2 very different things

Figure out what you can afford , offer $10 000 and keep going up till you get to your what you can afford number

Better question is why are they selling it ??

Do they think it is worth big bucks and are ready to cash in ?
Car is just sitting in back shed covered with 20 years of junk and want the space ?
Owner died or very sick ?
Moving ?
...

They all affect the price over or under what it may be worth or bought for

Is there anyway to find out how many '68 Chargers came with a buddy seat from the factory?

92,590 - cars with consoles = cars with buddy seats

Short answer, no. All that information was lost in a fire long ago at Chrysler.

Buddy seats are sort of an irrelevant option. Most people would prefer a console car, but wont discount a car for having a buddy seat. They add no desirability or value to the market in general. They just are a fact in some cars.

I would have a trained set of eyes really scrutinize the car. Make sure it is all original and has had no major repairs to the body over the decades. A truly unmolested and rust free car with any engine is highly desirable. It could potentially be worth a premium depending on the overall condition of the car. This isn't an every day blue book sort of thing. You need to talk to someone really knowledgeable about the market for that class of all original, unmolested, and in no need of rust removal cars.
