Howdy boys. Been thinking, as one does...
And I gotta say I just been liking them '70 Chargers more and more these days.
In all fairness, I was never a "Charger" guy. I had a chance to learn and restore a '69 that I still have and I'm very happy. Yet for some reason every time I see a '70 Im  :drool5:

I voted yes trade a 69 for a 70

70 had so many nicer factory colours that look right on them and look foolish on the 68 69 Chargers

But yes I did just sell my 70 and have started working on a 69 which I hope to have a few 70 parts on when I am done

My vote is yes.---You indicated your bit of drull for the 70s That says it all. Time passes fast.
I had a 70 charger and frankly still prefer it to the 68 or 69 overall.--

Just make sure it's really what you want, i know way too many people (like myself) who thinks they prefer one thing over another, try it, then wish thy just stuck with what they had before

The 70 Charger has it all happening, pistol grip shifters, side scoops, 440 6 pack, wrap around front bumper, rear taillight fascia panel, racing mirrors, the interior is more refined looking, factory color choices are more attractive, plenty of stripe options, hood pins, rear wing option, rallye wheels,....I look at it this way 68,69,70, or good, better, BEST

I absolutely prefer the 70's. I love the loop bumper, cooler looking front fenders, R/T door scoops, high back buckets, 15X7 rallye wheels, pistol grip shifter, cooler colours, nicer steering wheels, newer disc brake setup etc. Other opinions may vary.

I was looking for a 70 wham I found my 69. In addition to the above, I believe the 70 has lower production numbers.

VegasCharger

Since you have the option "ok, ok a '68" I voted for that even though the topic was for 69 to 70.

But if I had to chose between 69 and 70 then I would go with 69. Just because it's closer looking to the 68 lol.

Since I like black 2nd gen. Chargers the 70s impact colors are not an advantage over 68/69.

No 2nd gen. Charger should have a wing on it with the exception of the Daytonas IMO even though it was an option in 70.

Loop front bumper, no thanks. R/T scoops covering the iconic door scallops, what were they thinking. Door panels way better in 68/69.

But it's you that's going to be behind the wheel, if love the 70s then I say go for it.

have  you found a particular  70 charger  ?  if so , how much work does it need  compared to your 69 ,   does the 70 charger have the options & color combo you like ? how rot free & complete is it compared to your 69 ?  do they both require the same amount of work to restore them to the same standard ? if you have not got your eye on one all ready ,& your plan was / is not a factory OEM resto . ignore what ive just said   :P

imo 70 chargers have the best options & colors & interiors !  look at a 70 SE interior & compare it to a 68/69 ,

would I swap  mine for a , yellow & black top interior  70 R/T SE ,  , nope  :nono:  would love to own one as well as  :yesnod: &  a 68 too  ;D , given a choice , one year only ! would be a 69 every time for me .

70 Chargers are my favorite but that is the one thing I don't like about the RTs.

charger_fan_4ever

If its a turn key car this won't matter, but if its a project....

There are so many 1 year only parts that are not reproduced. If i was to do it over i would have bought a 68-9 just for ease of restoration.

Seat tracks
dash frame
column
fenders/hood/bumper/grill all not reproduced
tailpan trim piece

Im sure im missing stuff too.

But i do prefer as mentioned all the color options and interior changed 6 pack ect for 70. Mind you i prefer the clean front of 69-9 and not a huge fan on the body color tailpan in 70. Thanks god for the trim panel r/t and 500.

Troy

You have to pay for it and you have to live with it. Why buy/have something that isn't exactly what you want? Having said that, if you *want* a 440 Six Pack 4-speed R/T SE in Plum Crazy then a blue small block 69 or a yellow 70 with a 383 are both lesser choices. Of course, if you're too picky you'll never have anything! To make a trade I'd have to end up with something I wanted more - not just trade for the sake of it.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

WHITE AND RED 69

You are nuts! Your 69 is killer! Why would you want to trade something you put countless hours into just for some minor appearance changes? I don't think most here who have voted have seen your car, cause if they did the "no" votes would be way higher up there.

I always was a 69 guy that was my favorite going way back. Might have helped that a high school buddy had one. Then later on I had a 68 RT back in the days when we actually drove / used these cars. Still was partial to a 69 that was all I wanted and pursued. A few years ago the 70 Charger look started growing on me and wasn't long before one thing lead to another and now I have one of each. Each have their advantages and their own features I like. Your call here but I will admit a 70 will grow on you over time.  :Twocents:

JB400

Personally, there isn't enough difference between the two years to make a trade worth while unless it was an improvement on options.

I'm the kind that makes what I want. So I wouldn't be happy with an original plum crazy, highly optioned perfect '70, or any other "dream" car cause I can just make one anyway. It would be a restomod so a lowly base model is best. I was just thinking is all... Maybe someday. Guess I gotta get the '70 Coronet with hideaways and the Daytona so it might be a few months yet.  :D

I prefer the 70, obviously, as I bought one. But, I think the 68 has the best grille, and the 69 and 70 have the better looking tail lights. But, the 70 has the high back buckets.....

Arguments could be made for either, but the most serious strike against the 70 is also it's best attribute. Low volume. As mentioned in this thread, lot's of 1 year only parts. Front end most notably.

Just scored a pair of rust free fenders for mine from Arizona after months of looking. Which made me nervous of the future, so I'm keepin my rusty originals, just in case.....

I happen to like your 69 and the choices you made for it over a 70. One thing to keep in mind. You know what you have and exactly what you have done to it.
Chances are you will find some issues with another car that you may find. Then again, that process of making the car the way you like it and moving to the next can be fun.
Probably depends on if you like the process of fixing and making it "yours" and if the 70 appeals to you more

I've had a 70 for 11 years.I really loved this car,but i've always wanted a 69 R/T 4-speed.

Could that "low volume" be as a result of the front end looking so ugly that not many people bought them after the far prettier (IMO of course!!!.....LOL) 68/69 models......just a thought!

Get a 70, with all the benefits that gives.....and fit a 68/69 front end to it! Boom......its a winner!

Keep the 69! IMO the only thing that looks as good is a 69 Daytona but we all know why that is  :D
I mean you can do some swapping on your 69 to make it look like a 70 I'm sure because they convert 70 to 69, just keep all the parts safe and you can choose to change it  back, I know someone mentioned colors, paint it what you want, heck my 69 is going to be a newer GM gun metal grey with  metallic, but it's up to you, but remember what ever you do it will be wrong, if you listen to other people that is

Moreso the result of the newly designed Challenger, redesigned 'cuda and IIRC all of the "muscle" rigs were redesigned (like every year back then) eating into overall sales.

For me, it was coming down to either a '68 or '70.  The 1st time I seen a purple & white '70 C500 did it for me.
I always liked the rigs that looked like they had an open mouth about to eat the cars in front of it.  Pretty sure there's a few Fords I liked as well for that reason.

I did have a couple inspections done on '69's back when I was looking hard.  Almost picked up a '69 R/T SE, blue hardtop, white stripe, can't remember the rest.  These were the days of using Hemmings Motor News & Auto Trader, before ebay, etc.
I remember trying to sell a '72 Charger in Hemmings.  It was a mess, ended up being almost 6 months before it got listed, lol.
