What is the best color?

What is the best color on the chargers? What is the color that demands biggest premium (average cars)?

I think for second gen black is number one color and from my searches on the used market, it seems that they demand a premium. To me, this is the best color on the 2nd Gen, makes it look very mean!

Green seems to be the worst color and usually those cars are the cheapest. Same for interior color.

White/red/yellow seem to be on par. I dont like red and yellow, but that is just my taste, objectivly red looks pretty good. white is ok to me (with some black accents its kind of cool).

Silver seems to be rare, but i find it super good looking.

I dont think the crazy colors look that great on 2nd gens, but look good on 3rd gens.

My biggest question is about the blue color. I found a blue 68, with a blue interior (blue/black). I have a blue c7 vette and had a blue c6z06, and i love that color on those cars... But im not sure about it on the charger (never seen it in person). I like that 68's look very mean, but blue seems to make it less mean and more happy. Something like that... Does anyone have mean looking blue cars?

Whats ya'lls take on the colors?

my guess would be black, reds or blues on the 68 and 69, and any of the high impact colours on the 70  :scratchchin:

Bronze or copper  :Twocents:

Agreed.   :2thumbs:  (and I don't own one).

But if you want mean then it's black.   No vinyl roof, no stripe, black interior, and blackout windows.

It's all going to be personal preference. What I like will be different from what you like. I believe that you are right when you say TX9 cars sell for most. Personally I like the orange and purple colors to. Silver is a very nice color on a 2nd gen but good luck finding an original A4 1969 or 999 1970 Charger, I haven't seen a lot of them.

Bad ass Black on a second generation. (with phat tires) :2thumbs:

i think a black charger, blacked out windows with an r/t stripe delete using 427 a/c cobra wheels and tires tucked up under the wheel wells would be really mean lookin. my goal eventually on one of my cars.

yes good idea  ,  make a poll , & see what the out come is !

if your thinking of what color = most money resale ,   red & a black top & interior looks awesome on a charger  , so does black , B5 blue ,  in fact all factory colors look awesome on second  generation charger in their own way  :drool5: when they have been restored / painted correctly imo .
even orange  , the dukes of hazzard  / general lee mob , love the general lees with a passion & they seem to pay top dollar for an orange GL charger .
imo ,  it comes down to how well the car has been restored as opposed to the color combo  , if I was buying one already done .
really you need to ask your self , are you buying / repainting a charger to please your self as in what color you like , or just what the majority of potential charger owners want to buy & what ,will it be worth in 6 month / 2 years time or ..if I paint it red  or black or ....

example ,       XP 383 four speeds / XS / XX / & hemi cars ,  would be better off painted & restored to factory OEM ,  guys who would pay top dollar for these cars , will want them original ,

for me ! had to be an original Y2 car ,  :D  but way back when I got mine ,  you could sort of pick & choose cars with in your budget  , even then took 4 months looking for the right car  , remember 27/28 years ago there was no ebay or internet

I like black on all the second gens!! I wanted to paint mine black but my best friend had a black 68 and I felt like I would be called a copy cat if I painted mine black too so I went with hemi orange.  I like the hemi orange, I get alot of looks and compliments about the paint job so I can't complain about my decision on the color I decided to go with....

haven't seen a charger yet that don't look good in purple , plum crazy to be exact   :coolgleamA:

white int. and roof or just white int. and a white bumble bee stripe on 2nd gens     :Twocents:

b5 blue would be a close second

When I bought my superbee in 69 I saw a pic at the dealer of a 70 challenger in "plum crazy". I liked that for many years and never had a car that color until I bought a 98 Dakota RT PU in plum crazy. (It's my daily driver still).
I still like it but have settled in on B5 as the best color for a car.

Their is no room for argument on this.  Any one that says another color is right for them is just plane wrong on this. :nana:

Dans 68

My first '68 was originally QQ1 (metallic blue) and that has been my favorite color for a '68. She'll get back to that hue someday. Now I'm tending towards LL1 (medium dark turquoise metallic).  :icon_smile_wink:

I have a 68 in LL1 and QQ1
I prefer LL1 slightly

These two are the best colours IMHO

Black looks good. I was at a car show once with over 100 chargers (Boerne Charger meet).  Almost every car looked mundane. The one color that was unique and really stuck out in my mind was go mango. There was only one 70 Charger there that color.  :drool5:

I think the "mean" factor has more to do with the wheels/tires and stance more than color.

My 70 is white, not my favorite color, but with black steelies and fat rears and the right stance it should look pretty "mean-ish"    :Twocents:

i like all 2nd gen chargers as someone said its got to do with stance and whats wrong with orange . mines y3 cream well will be one day

I finished up the restoration on this Charger 500 last summer for the owner.  You'd have to know him.  He loves red.  Everything he has is red.  One of his favorite saying is "There are two colors... red and ugly".  So when he bought this car, it was red... but needed a total restoration.  The car was originally B5 blue... and being a rare car, he knew that it needed to be put back the way it originally was.  When we finished the car, he loves the color on this car.  He even said that usually Blues are one of his least favorite... but he loves the way it looks on this car.  You can never go wrong with B5 Blue.

For myself , 3x9 on a 2nd gen is my favorite . Back in 98 I bought a 69 R/T  B5 blue , white top , white stripe ,B7 interior . Pretty color combo , but not my favorite .During the resto , got very side tracked and came very close to changing the color to triple black , but the purist in me knew that I shouldn't ruin a nice color combo like that . So restored to the fender tag .
During the finishing of the car , wouldn't you know , a 3x9 R/T SE comes up for sale ,  :brickwall: !!!!! Regardless , I had to buy it .
Then after the B5 car was done , sold it to a friend of mine . Now I had to go thru another full resto of another 69 Charger !!!!!!
The B5 car was white top,white stripe,B7 interior,N85,six way seat,tinted glass(no A/C),rear defogger,rocker moldings,A36 axle package,PDB,buckets/console .
The  R/T SE is a pretty loaded car ,A47, V88,N85,six way seat,AM/FM,rocker moldings, tinted glass,A/C,PDB,PW,rear defogger, headrests(early car),column with buddy seat . I don't have a build sheet , so I don't know what it came with for wheels/tires , but have multiple sets, my favorite look is to mimic the Bullit Charger .
Second from my fav of 3x9 is def T5 ,white top,white stripe,white interior !!!!!!  :drool5: :drool5

Bronzedodge

Light bronze, dark bronze, or copper.   ;D   I like B5 but when you go to a show and compare a few there seems to be a large variance.
Mopar forever!

While black is more menacing-looking, T5 medium copper is a good choice for a second generation Charger color...

68 BENGAL R/T

I am bias, but I do love my Orange and Black Bengal colors. Tom Kneer Dodge knew what they were doing when they asked Dodge
to give them the special paint option for the '68 Charger. It became a popular color combo for years to follow

charge69

There are very few factory colors that do not compliment the lines of a Charger.  Mine was R6 Red from the factory and that is what it is painted today.  It never fails to bring a smile to the face of onlookers in person.  I'm very happy with it.

JesseJames78

Personally I like blue on it, I feel the car holds it very well while looking like it wants to fight your car...and win!

Chargerguy74

My personal favorite would be a 71 in FJ6 Green Go with a full white vinyl top and white buckets. A close second would be Plum Crazy with a full black vinyl top and black buckets.
