I was watching Jay Leno last night and he said something about the prices of 69 chargers has risen from $28K to $44K in recent months as a result of the Dukes movie.  Has anyone seen any evidence of this?  I did a search on ebay last night and found a couple Generals up around $50K.  I have seen prices going up but nothing that bad yet, until now.  I guessed a year or two ago that my charger was worth about $12K, now it's worth $20K!?!  What's wrong with these people?  I paid $4500 for my car 3 1/2 years ago and have only about $1500 invested in it since.  It almost scares me to drive it if it's worth that much.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

Good news for most of us. :)
Not for me, anybody who is looking for a 2nd gen is in for a rude awaking. I read somewhere in an article that the prices of 2nd gens have gone up over 60%.

I think charger owners are the ones making the prices go up (or thinking they are...), I know it sounds silly, but if you had (or really wanted) a charger before this dukes movie came out...whether your a charger fan...mopar fan...or a dukes fan, you still are... do I think that because of this movie there's gonna be legions of people that are gonna start wanting chargers after this movie...nope, no more than usual, the problem is people building up hype, maybe to make their own car feel like its worth more (especially ebayers) For months I have been reading on this site, ebay, and many other mopar related sited.......OOooo get your charger now before prices triple......hogwash. I went and seen the movie, I liked it actually...and I'm working on a Charger RT (not a GL clone, but admit it would be cool to have) And I am not saying our cars are not worth nothing, They are!! But not rising as everyone thinks, its just alot of hype and its gonna die down.   My car was still the same car after August the 5th as it was before August 5th.   On August the 6th I checkout eBay and saw 3 GL clones at rediculous prices, two were lowly 318 cars........."the vultures are attacking!!!!"   To say that Charger's or any car.. muscle car, antique, streetrod, rat rod, any car prices can go up that much in one day (especially because of a movie) is nothing more than wishful thinking....infact it is just stupid, and I am glad the movie premiere has done come and pass, so I do not have to read foolish statements like this anymore.   Just my 2 cents.

You are absolutely right.  The only thing that has gone up is the hype.  As soon as the hysteria dies down  the opportunists will discover that even though 10,000 DOH fans who watched the movie say they want a Charger and will pay anything to get it, only about 40 of them are going to sell their trailer to finance it.

ChargerHound69

Well someone just paid 55,000 for a General Lee clone on ebay with the buy it now.

I guess they wanted one real bad.

69charger2002

i'll be honest, i figured it would be all hype too. but one just ended for 55k like moparhound said. not an hour ago. that is NUTS.. that's more than selling a trailer.. which to me is insane.. maybe they are really gonna go up some. projects are hitting 10k now

More money than sense. ::)
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Who wants mine? you could have the only General Lee with a power sunroof. #'s matching big block 4 spd combo, $15k, all you gotta do is restore it.

ChargerHound69

I can't even get rid of mine, and it is all original.   Everyone that comes to look at it says they have money problems.  Or for some reason or another they tell me they want it and then can't come up with the money. :flame:

So, Chargerhound!  Where are you and how much do you want for it?

ChargerHound69

I live in CA.  I am looking to get around 20,000 for the car.
The car is on Ebay now.  I have had 3 people now tell me that they want the car, but when it comes time to get it, they have a no money in the bank problem.

I had this car on the website, and a guy said he would bring me 22,000.  A day later he couldn't come up with the cash so I put it on ebay.

I guess I need to paint it orange and put some O1 on the doors and sell it for 55,000

depending on car, but every charger is going to be up in value just like any desirable classic/muscle car is rising in value

And they should go up, but in a natural fashion.  When a movie causes a relatively common model (compared to some other musclecars) to spike in price by 64% over the course of days and it doesn't matter about condition or options, that is just stupid.

69DodgeCharger

They will be worth what the market will bear, even if the prices are outrageous. This might be a good time to sell my 69 and the all the parts I collected for it over the years and concentrate on the 65 Satellite I just picked up.

The bugle sounds the charge begins. But on this battlefield no one wins.

So far the only cars selling for alot of money are orange with 01 on the doors.  The rest of the cars are still selling for good prices.
