I pulled my first engine. Its the 360 I bought a couple of weeks ago for my Charger.

I have to give props to my boy Vainglory for going beyond the call of duty and helping me out all day. Thanks bud! We didnt take any pictures of the process cuz we were so focused on the job at hand, but ill have a couple of pics of the engine soon.

Now that I finally got the engine home, the process to swap out the ol'd 318 begins. Still, I'm not intimidated anymore.

Just wait till you have it all freshened up and ready to slide into your Charger, being cautious and carefull not to scratch the freshly painted engine bay... ahh its like the first time all over again.... :-X

You see, it's just nuts and bolts. Now when does the brain surgery start??

Congrats Mojo. Now when you bleed it won't be from anything personal...

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

it really isnt that bad. we'd probably have been done a lot faster than we were, but we lost about 2 hours while we went to the hardware store to look for a socket big enough to turn the crank.

:yesnod:

we figured it out after the second trip to the hardware store. the 1 1/14 felt a little loose tho...maybe the bolt is metric? Otherwise, maybe its cuz i bought a 12 point socket instead of a 6 point.

Our Mojo is growing up so fast. :cryin:

The rest will seem like gravy after pulling a motor out of a van and  you MIGHT even enjoy it this time.

No, the real test is pulling it out of a motor home. Not one going to the bone yard either!! What a pain in the AZZ!!!!!!!!!!

I'll just set the scene for you..  38' monster with a 454" Chevy. The owner changed his own oil and didn't check the oil filter gasket. While driving fully loaded and towing his S-10 Blazer, he blew the second seal, (that didn't belong), away from the filter and blew oil all over everywhere in the dog house and under the coach. He then went on to window the block.
Due to the sending unit NOT shutting the engine off, GM paid half of the bill and I was the LUCKY bastard that got the job of changing out the engine in that monster mess.... :flame:

You could not pay me enough to do it again!!

yeah...like i was saying, i feel pretty confident now. Im also feeling good about the prospect of dropping the engine in.  I was surprised at how relatively easy it is to hook / unhook up the tranny from the motor. The only thing that im really not looking forward to is hooking up all the little hoses and wires here and there once the motor is in.

Right now tho, my immediate goals are to start work on getting the 318 out, and clean up and paint the 'new' 360.

if you werent in cali you could ditch most all of those litle hoses, and a few wires  the engine doesnt nead alot to run well..but all that EGR and other BS makes things more troublesome

actually I can. my car being a 74 became smog exempt 2 years ago, when they still had the 30 year rolling window for that. The new law is that all 76 and newer cars have to be smogged - so one way or the other im safe.

I want to get rid of all the crap i dont need...smog, a/c, etc - just the bare essentials. When i start taking apart my engine bay, ill start posting questions (and pics) asking what I can get rid of and what do i need to keep.

Just in case you werent aware ( my first engine swap was a 318/360 swap also ) You must NOT use the 318 torque converter on the 360. I found out the hard way and Al Gore hadn't invented the interweb yet so I didn't have these great guys and girls to ask questions of. Good luck with your swap and have fun!

From what I've been told (by Chryco and others) is that I can use the 318 converter if I get a weighed flexplate. I'm still looking into that though...
