Rocker arms, what would you run?

Well I just spent the last hour reading through search results on the topic and haven't been able to come to a decision. My 440 has 440 Source roller rockers on stealth heads, the cam is a comp XE282S solid mechanical. I am thinking about upgrading my rockers. I have had 3 adjusters break, some came loose on the dyno, throwing a pushrod, and some have flat spots on the ball ends of the adjusters after a day at the dyno. I was told to go with the stainless PRW rollers, but after some google searches, I don't feel they'd be a good option, maybe I'm wrong?

I was thinking of the Comp Cams pro magnum rollers or the crane ductile irons (based on what I read here). I'm open suggestions. The Harland Sharps or Hughes sound good too.  Are there big advantages to going with a roller in my setup over the ductiles, when it comes to friction, valve side loading/guide wear, oil temps, hp gains? I no longer care about the cost, I just don't want to end up replacing them in the near future because I made the wrong choice. It seems like I'm doing that with a lot of parts in this build so far. The 440 is going into a street car and will probably never see the track as long as it lives in this Charger, but it WILL get bagged on.

I have a set of 1.6 ratio Crane ductiles new in the box, but I want to stay with 1.5. That being said, anyone have a set of new 1.5s sitting around that they'd like to trade for 1.6?

Well I think I'll be going with the crane ductiles after some more reading.

I think the 1.6 Crane rockers would be a good choice.  But, I cannot speak to the quality of their adjusters on their newer stuff.  Ask around about that.

Rhetorical question: With the plethora of inexpensive aftermarket heads that flow well to 0.600" lift, why isn't anyone making a quality mid-level 1.7 ratio rocker arm for BB Mopars?  I think the cost would be nothing for the manufacturers.

Back your regularly scheduled program.

Before switching the 1.6s, do you have adequate ptv clearance? I like the comp rockers.  Great quality. Run them on a 426 at 7400 rpm without an issue at 680lb spring pressure.

The ones I have I bought in 2003. I just never used them.

I never had the 1.6s on this engine. I had 1.5 source rockers. I'd have to check the piston to valve clearance with 1.6s to know, but I did dyno and tune with the 1.5s and am pretty happy with the results (mid 500s).

Those comp rollers say "full roller." Does that mean they aren't bushed?

Unless they changed something recently, they are bushed on the shaft. Im thinking thats a typo on summit's part.

Same on mancini's site, but the 2013 catalog says bushed. I read some posts here that both styles are/were offered?
Comps site says for part number 1621-16 "precision-sorted needle bearings and hardened roller tips."

I bought pn 1621-16 last year and they were bushed.  I don't see it on the comp web pages for the same part number.  I would give them a call to ask.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Well I was able to pick up a new set today. The Cranes would've been a 2 week wait. I never got to ask comp about this, I was on hold for 20 minutes and had enough.

Here's what I got

Curious, why did you not use the Cranes that you already have?

Due to the amount of grinding and clearancing required for the pushrods. I think I'll just save them for my next build. I can't believe what they sell for now compared to what I paid 13 years ago, even with inflation.

Indeed, the cranes are old school and reliable. I have a set in the toolbox myself. Cant go wrong with either brand.

I installed the Comp Roller tips on my 440 with  Lunatti Vodoo hyd. cam. They appeared to be good quality. About 400 miles so far. The whole assembly is heavier than stock rockers, Comp Cam said the extra weight was in the CM shafts and forged mounting blocks. They said the reciprocating mass the valve springs "saw" was about the same as stock rockers.  :shruggy:
