Hello!

Im in the middle of replacing my t/c, transmission is down under the Charger and im laying in the cold dirt and trying to fit new t/c but it dont want to go all the way in.
its should be 3 "clicks" but i only get to the first.
This converter comes from a 440/727 Coronet so it should fit my car aswell.
any idea what im doing wrong?
I cant get the transmission out from under the car becourse its not high enough and the jack is under the tranny :brickwall:

What year Coronet?  I had the same problem with a new t/c.  Turned out the transmission I had was from 1965 and had a course splined input shaft.  New torque converter was fine splined.

68 Coronet thats all i know (bought it from an mopar facebook site).
when im comparing from my original t/c it looks the same, only diffrent is that on the original the edges to the splines are more "cut/smoth"
ive tryed spinning and pushing and rackle it up/down, side to side but it wont fit???
My arm's feels like spagetti and im about to start crying.

Found this on Allpar, "A-727 transmissions from their inception until 1966 have 19 splines on the input shaft. Non-lockup 727 transmissions from 1967 onward have 24 splines. Lockup 727 transmissions that debuted in 1978 had 23 splines."

I will go out and start counting, maby my tranny is a -65 sinse its written 65 on the t/c.

I fought mine too, for quite some time.   Even dropped the tranny to try out in the open, but no such luck.  That's when I posted on here...

Here is a link from what John_Kunkel told me.

I bought a parts 727 off a guy.  Was missing the valve body and a few odds and ends, but most of the core stuff was there.  You need the input shaft and the reaction shaft support, the 2 pieces that actually go together that the converter slides onto.

'The 727 handbook, guide to rebuilding or modifying Chrysler's 727' was invaluable in guiding me through the process.

Thanks Grdprx!
I will se if i can get a copy of that book aswell. I have check the number on driver side now and its "PK3515845-3847-6506" and that translate to a -71 Barracuda/Challenger
-72 Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth.
That would make sense since my engine is a -72 440. But i have count the splines 3 times now and it is 19 splines. Somebody have made this change in the past.
I have found a 24 spline shaft on ebay, and also the reaction shaft but he may not ship to sweden acording to the ad. I have sent him an e-mail with a sad kitten hopfuly to change his mind :icon_smile_big:

if he wont ship to you is there someone on here you know in the states that you trust to maybe help. it might cost more, but you can have them buy it and after it ships to their house, have them ship it to you? if he wont ship it to you, you can always try that.

He responded that he could ship it to me, so it all worked out for me.
now all i can do is wait, betveen 7 -23 mars was estimated shipping time. guess i'l have time to drag the tranny out from under the car and clean it. O by the way, ialso bought a book "Torqueflight A-727 handbook" by Carl H Munroe.
I would like to thank both of you for your help :2thumbs:

ACUDANUT

I'm surprised no one chimed in that, the slots in the converter have to match the slot in the actual transmission.  This is a royal pain (lying on the back and under the car).  Never had a issue with splines.  :scratchchin:
