Purchased a 1973 Charger yesterday

I purchased a 1 owner 45,000 mile California car super straight drives awesome. I've been looking for a car just like I had in high school it took over 20 years to find one that's completely stock never been modified or hacked up. It's and SE 400BB 2BBL auto matching numbers. I can't wait to drive it this summer.

It had been sitting at a classic car dealer for over a year I had him send me pics of the car inside outside underneath I noticed alot of dried up oil on the timing cover,valve covers,oilpan,trannypan,and rear differential. I had a mechanic inspect it for me and came back with a very decent inspection.

We both agreed it needed all new gaskets and since the timing cover was going to be pulled to probably change the timing chain also.When I flew to see the car I went and talked to the mechanic which was awesome he's and ole hot rodder been working on cars a long time and loves working on the old stuff. The top ineeds  to be redone there is some rust under it I can see that's about it as far as major things that need attention.

After seeing and hearing so many horror stories of interent car sales I knew if I wanted to be sure of this car I had to spend some money up front before shelling out real big money for this car.

My advice if you spent as many years as I have looking for the perfect car don't be cheap on inpection or sight un seen it's not worth it.if you can't afford to do this then you should probably not by your dream car till you have your ducks in a row just my opinion.

Dang that is sweet- My buddy had a green one just like it in the 80's. But he smashed it into a parked trailer while doing about 80 adjusting his equalizer. (remember those?) The size of that front end saved his life, no doubt!

My old 73 I use to have had headers with glass packs dual out the back the way the headers were it burned out 2 starters .
My dad had that car way up n the air and loosened the headers just to get the starter out when lol.

I'm definitely going to put new exhaust on it but real curious if things have changed with the headers ? I don't want to go thru the hassle of what my Dad had to do when I was a teenager I'd be cussing like he used ha ha.

Then you will pay the price for quality headers, but it's well worth it.   Look into either Doug's or TTi headers; they're almost three times the cost of anything else but you'll have less of a headache with them.

Exhaust  I'd like top put some Magnum 500  on it 15x10 and 15x8 if that will work. Have the top redone fix some of the paint maybe do a stroker kit.I want the interior and exterior to stay stock no hacking up just a clean smooth car.

Just put an entire system on my 73 from Waldron Exhaust. Half the price of TTI or Accurate and everything fit perfectly.

Congrats on having the patience and forethought to have a thorough inspection done before buying that beauty of a '73 Charger!  Cruising this summer will be awesome !  Welcome to the board.
If it was me, I would leave the stock exhaust headers on it and dual-it-out with some nice mufflers and call it even. Have the heads rebuilt and get a 4-bbl carb and intake but, keep it stock-looking. Maybe a mild cam and new lifters but, nothing radical. Drive and enjoy it!  Beautiful Charger.

Be careful to be sure they are 73-74 "SE" as they are not the same as hardtop or 71-2 SE.  BIG difference.

2 year Charger SE ONLY, won't fit anything else, that is probably why. I got just the door seals and reused my smaller pieces and save a few bucks. But not a lot.
And *note* it has taken them almost 4 summers in the sun to fit properly.
