trying to remove headlight switch knob

I'm trying to remove the headlight switch knob on my 71 charger, does it pull straight out? or does it twist off? I tried both way, but I'm afraid that I may break it. Thanks.

I haven't torn into a 71 Charger but I have done so on several A body's from 72 to 76. If it's like them there is a button on the switch that needs to be pressed and at the same time pull on the headlight switch knob. The knob and the shaft it's mounted to will come out.

thank you very much, I just got it off with the way you said it. I was just about to yank it out and that would sure to break it. thanks again.
