i love these chargers, the deathproof chargers and the matte fast and furious ones look evil  :coolgleamA:

I don't think that car is worth 180k but at the same time, im sure theres plenty of rich fast and furious fans.

but when you consider how stripped the car is, and the use of fiberglass, you could build one for 10k

crj1968

Interesting...
Pull the pins and hinge the blower up.  :icon_smile_big:

Value? I have no idea, it's a movie car, hard to say.  I mean maybe if I was multi millionaire Vin Diesel, I'd like to have it.

Mike DC

Not worth $180,000.  But these cars are too unique to pin a clear number on it.

Building it would be cheap but still way over $10k.  Solid Charger unibody + big custom cage + newish drivetrain + Ford 9" + 4-wheel discs + custom fake electric-powered blower housing + big aftermarket wheels/tires.

I don't recall the relocated leafs & tubbed rear wheelwells being done in the movie.  Scratch that.  It may have been done for the movie after all.

lukedukem

I'd was looking for a 70 to do a clone of this car but decided not to for the moment.  It would be nice to park this along side my death proof clone, but not at that price.

Replicating it might get a little easier in another movie or two.

The car supplier is getting so tired of hunting for overpriced solid Charger shells that he's considering a DIY version.  Mapping out some templates so his fabrication guys can build the undercarriages from square tubing.

He's already using RMS suspensions (both front and rear) on some of the stunt Chargers in the last few movies.  And the off-road version in #7 was a stock Charger roof & sides with a tube chassis underneath.

The Barrett Jackson one is the #2 hero car this guy is selling #1. The Barrett Jackson one sold in 2013 for 95.7k and then 2016 for 93.5k.

Nice info Mike, thanks. Yeah the #7 cars you could tell there wasn't much but body parts from the car.

Vinnie's Charger has been so varied over the last 7 movies that there's hardly anything consistent to replicate.

It's a black 1970 Charger with a stripped-down & rollcaged interior.   It usually (but not always) has a big shiny blower sticking through the hood.  The wheels are usually big & shiny.  The car is way more Summit catalog parts than stock.  That's about as specific as you can get.

lukedukem

Lol, yeah your right about that. This is the one I'd actually shoot for, except maybe the rims. But then it wouldn't be a 100% clone. I like the Lamborghini gray color

But then again my death proof clone doesn't have a roll cage.  :shruggy:

i saw that too, but the doors look like they have 1969/70 holes for where the lock knobs would go  :shruggy:

lukedukem

Yep, converted to '70s. The ones I listed links for are '69s converted to 70 as well. Guess they couldn't find many 70s at the time so they used these instead.
Yeah, the one with the hemi was a pretty good deal

To make all these cars less expensive and easier to repair quickly, they all used the same front clip and GM crate motors.   :eek2:

At what point does it cease even being a Charger? To my mind is a car that looks a bit like a Charger....because of the shell....but is it? No Charger engine....not even a Mopar engine....no Charger interior etc etc etc. And then to take a desirable 68 year model and turn it into a 70....(sorry no offence to 70 owners but I'm not a fan!). To my mind it has very little value as a Charger and only has value to film memorabilia  collectors as a movie prop. Everything about it looks bodged and cheap IMO. And as for that fake blower.....well that halves the value for a start :smilielol:. Can you even begin to imagine the piss taking at any decent car rally!??

Buy a muscle car 40 years ago.  Strip it down to bare metal, rebuild it with generic & racer parts, and then beat it to death on a racetrack in front of a crowd.

Muscle car fans love you for it.  Decades later they will honor your achievements & document every detail of your cars.

Buy the same muscle car 10, 20, or 40 years later.  Strip it down to bare metal, rebuild it with generic & racer parts, and beat it to death in front of a movie theater crowd.

The same fanbase gripes at you for wasting a perfectly good muscle car.

::) apples to oranges.  Back then there were plenty second generation chargers. They were manufacturing them all day every day.

Yeah, movie cars are props, so they are built to save costs. The guy that builds them said he really wants to build on with a Gen 3 Hemi, he had a car set aside to do it, but they had to use it for one of the films, says he wants to get around to it someday.

Mike DC

Quoteapples to oranges.  Back then there were plenty second generation chargers. They were manufacturing them all day every day.

They weren't manufacturing 2nd-gen Chargers in 1971.  NASCAR still wrecked them.  The roads were still full of Chargers in 1978 but people look back & complain about 'Dukes' wasting them by then.

I don't think it's as different as the hobby pretends it is.  How many restorable Chargers were scrapped over the years, by just the guys on this forum alone?

Collectively, the muscle car hobby acts like a bunch of former sluts who found Jesus.  Now we are the ones crying the loudest about the newer sluts.

Thanks tantop, I think with the values of the other movie cars present, this one is worth less than the hemi one. Which sold for around 52k. Maybe 35 - 40k.  :shruggy:

I like the gray version of Vinnie's car too.  But few people in public would even recognize it as a F&F car.

I like the glossy one best (except for the bumper & window trim being black).  It looks like you picture Dominic Toretto's Charger looking.  And it's a decent condition car in general.  It got a resto by a private owner mid-way through its F&F movie career which is unusual.

JR

I love these movies, but I've often wondered why do they sell them when they're done filming?

There are three more F& F films in the que to be made. Why not put the built cars in storage between movies instead of chasing down 2nd gens, and thrashing to get them together in time?

Combination of factors.  And storing a bunch of cars behind fences with security is never free.

Fast & Furious #2 and #3 didn't feature the Charger at all.  They seemed to total it in #4 and #5.  It didn't appear at all in #6.  (The maroon red Daytona was an unrelated car in the storyline.  The producers could just as easily have asked for a Superbird.)  They just don't know what the next movie will hold.

From what I know, the F&F supplier isn't in the habit of selling off ALL the Chargers/etc after each movie, just some.  The fact that people are always ready to pay so much for the used cars must factor into it too.

After the Jessica Simpson DOH remake the producers held onto their remaining General Lees in anticipation of sequels that didn't happen.  They eventually made one more forgettable TV-movie and that's it.  The GLs were sold off after that.

Warner Bros sent the first DOH movie crew a truckload full of Crown Vic police cars with "Gotham City PD" painted on the sides.  Warner Bros knew they would be doing another Batman movie soon.  This is just standard industry practice.
