1971 Slant Six?

 Been looking, but no one seams to know. Just how many slant six chargers where built in 71? Do we have a breakdown between coupe and hardtop?

Those are numbers that I have not run across myself either. The magic white books do not break this down for 1971. But, we may be able to use the 1972 numbers as a proxy. Those numbers have been published.

For 1972, the slant 6 was available on the WL23 Coupe and the WH23 Hardtop. Total USA shipped for both was 47,910 units. Total USA shipped on the slant 6 cars was 962 units. So we are looking at an installation rate for the slant 6 of 2%.

For 1971, the slant 6 was available in the WH23 Hardtop and the WH23 A93 Coupe. Total USA shipped for both was 36,751 units. Using the 1972 installation rate of 2% - that gives approximately 735 slant 6 1971 Chargers.

As for a breakdown between Hardtop and A93 Coupe - we could use the 1970 Charger/Charger 500 & 1972 Charger Coupe/Hardtop ratio as a proxy. The ratio of slant 6 1970 Charger/Charger 500 is 181/28 - or about a 6 to 1 ratio. Similarly, the ratio of slant 6 1972 Coupe/Hardtop is 829/133 - or about a 6 to 1 ratio.

Using the above proxy ratio of 6 to 1, the slant 6 installation rate of 1971 A93 Coupe/Hardtops would be approximately 613 A93 Coupes with the slant 6, and 122 Hardtops with the slant 6.

Until someone comes across and shares a copy of the 1971 Dodge Charger Options and Accessories report, this would be my SWAG on your question. (Semi-educated Wild Ass Guess)
