Saw this car on FB and although it is Beautiful I have never heard of this seller's claim that the trunk would come from factory in Splatter Paint.

I was trying to be nice so I brought the question here, now the owner is saying I'm a "hater" for not blindly following the nonsense he is spewing.  You can repeat a story a million times and even raise your voice but guess what still doesn't make it true.

I love the car but am so tired of people that have to live through their car's.

Chrysler didn't spray a porous paint onto trunk floors in 1970, nor do they install whatever that contraption is in the trunk. If you don't have documentation to support things don't try to make the world believe.

Love the car.

I'll bite - what's the thing in the guy's hand in the trunk?

I can read 3 of 4 words embossed, says: Auto / then ?? / Products (?) / Chicago.

One thing for sure, that splatter paint is too bright and nice to be 45 years old.

My guess as to what the gizmo in the trunk, an electric anti corrosion device.  Nice color.

I agree that the gizmo could be related to anti corrosion. :shruggy: The other item looks like it could be a zinc block that might be intended as a "sacrificial anode"-- that is common on boats to be (in effect) the first place for corrosion to happen there by saving the rest of the boat from the issue of corrosion until the zinc is gone

What this topic brings to mind is many other devices we have been subjected to --and pitched--- to buy that will do wonders for us beyond rational explanation

The water carb comes to mind as well as magnets for the fuel lines that align the fuel molecules (because that is good) :smilielol:---I like this stuff

I don't have it with me as it's at the shop but I was going thru the 70 Charger FSM and I noticed there was a listing for gray / black splatter paint.   It was in the body section near the back.

I've never actually seen a car with it from the factory but to have it listed in the FSM probably means it was available somehow.

Edit:   Found this in an online 69 FSM regarding splatter paint listing.

Not a chance that spatter (what GM called it) paint is original to that car. Trunks were always body color.
No idea what that thing is in his hand. I've been around since last century & haven't seen that before.
BUT I do love the body color! :drool5:
And the offset on those rear rims is almost a deal breaker...

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Some "C"  Bodies had the spatter finish paint in the trunk from the factory.  :Twocents:

Agreed from 67-72, and it was available over the counter at Chrysler dealers also in Mopar labeled spray cans, my 1969 Chrysler 300 that I purchased off the original owner with 60K miles, untouched, had a gray/black splattered trunk, as to whether the factory or dealer did it, I don't know

Yep.. I'm pretty darn certain that my '69 Fury II had it, right off the delivery truck.

Thanks Chris for punting it over.

Where does one start with this....

Car was already in 70 Charger registry as it was on ebay a few years ago up for sale from the Munday Auto Collection. The details on this car are not entirely accurate. See the Auto Collection site below it says the car has power locks.
http://www.mundayautocollection.com/?/site/collection/1970_dodge_charger/

The fender tag appears fully legit so as a 999 car it is rare. Although I have 7 other 999 cars registered. It has the correct Y39 Special Order code as well.

The notion of it being the "Every Box Checked" car is not accurate as there were several options available that were not selected. Moreover there are more than a few cars registered with more options.

The bumblebee stripe is incorrect as the car came with white longitudinal stripes which suggests the original colour was a darker one....many 999 cars were the A4 Silver...white stripes on silver does not work. Was the special paint in fact the Burgandy...who knows....unless you can document the ownership to day 1 and confirm it or if it is actually on invoice / sales paperwork. Maybe I'm jaded by advertising tricks but the sales ad says the car was "repainted a beautiful burgundy color"....that does not specifically state the original factory colour was burgundy.

The belief that 999 70 Chargers were built in Detroit is nonsense. I have not seen the splatter paint before in a 70 Charger and do not understand why this would be unique to 999 cars only.

And then there is that thing in the trunk....that is not something that came from the factory. I looked at it closely and believe it says AUTO-MATIC PRODUCTS CHICAGO. I did a google search and found some old boating material from mid-60s that references a company called AUTO-MATIC PRODUCTS CO. based in Chicago that offered electric bilge pumps, bilge exhaust blowers and electric ventilators.

All that said....it is a real 999 car....and that is pretty cool.

RJS

Don I glad this made it to you, Chris said he was sending you a link. This all started because of the nonsense on FB with people telling him it's a 100K car it's a 150K car it's a 200K car, bring it to B.J. and you'll get so much money etc...  I stated everytime it was was a beautiful car but so many of the statements are just speculation. Tried to get the guy to understand unless he has factory paperwork it is just a story he was told by the seller.
He stated he had proof, I asked for him to post it so I could learn something new, then he stated that he did research and found a code for it. I asked for him to produce the code for it. Then when he couldn't do either of the above I was a "Hater" and he wanted to see the "Couch" I was riding.

Been in this hobby long enough to recognize HYPE, I wanted him to realize no matter how many times he states these incorrect facts that doesn't make them true.

In the end he took his ball home and now we all can't play with it (took the post down).

It's a rare car that is worth money, but you need to have facts and a proper Restoration to maximize the package.

"if" that car was worth $XXX then Frank's (member here: Spike) 999 RT/SE Silver car is worth same or more since as I recall the silver was known as the original factory special order paint. He has a great car and the V21 option sets off the silver so well. :drool5:
