John's 70 Plymouth breaks down in Illinois.

That wouldn't be so bad, except John is from South Carolina headed for Colorado.  Thanks to these wonderful sites, John knew Stu from B Bodies and got a hold of him. He called Allen (41HUSK) to help John out. Allen called me to see if I had an 8.75 gear set for a B Body. I actually had a spare one sitting in the garage. Allen grabbed his trailer and headed to Ofallon Illinois to grab John and that 70 440 4 speed Mopar and towed it to his shop. When he got close, he called me to head down there. an hour later I made it to Allen's house. Now, if your wondering why it took an hour when I only live 40 minutes from Allen, I was at White Castle with the wife 20 minutes from the house. I ran home and booted her from the truck, grabbed the 8.75 and headed out.  When I got there they had the car up and about ready to remove the axles. we ran to town to grab some gear lube, then removed the gears. It was time for me to hit the road as they were trying to decide weather to take the sure grip and install it in the stock gear set I brought. The ring gear wasn't totally destroyed like we were thinking from the noise they were describing, but the pinion looked like a worn out dogs chew toy. Because of sites like this, John will be able to continue his trip without too much inconvenience, and we got to meet a great Mopar guy. He said his next stop will be a visit to Stuart in KC.

GREAT STUFF !!

I suspect the view of the axle stand is just hidden by your body? Had a boss killed when I was 15, lying in a similar position, while using an air powered bumper jack and no stands and the jack kicked off the bumper. :brickwall:

That is some cool stuff going on there. I'd like to take part in some sort of session like that some day.

yes, we did have jack stands under the axle on both sides. I wouldn't have gone under without them. :2thumbs:
