Hi, I know this has been talked about before, but with Keisler changing to SST, and kits from American Powertrain as well as Hurst Drivelines to choose from, which would be the best for an auto to TKO 600 swap? I would want a complete kit with clutch, bell housing, pedals, and hardware. Has anyone used any of these kits, and what were your successes/failures/opinions on each kit?

Thanks for chiming in!

I had a kit from Hurst drivelines installed.  It is OK, but the driveline angles are not right.  I think the issue was that the people who did the install needed to modify the tunnel more for this install than they actually did.  The issue is that the tail of the trans ends up being too far down.  My understanding is that the kits are different in subltle ways that can make a difference.  Some others on here will be able to advise on the tunnel modification issue.  I like the transmission, and the OD.

There's Passon Performance 5 speed conversion that some say bolts right in, downside, there's a waiting list.

edit: Not a conversion, but a direct bolt-in replacement.

Jamie is a great guy at passon, but the waiting list is literally YEARS out.  There is no direct swap 5 speed available that I know of, so you are left with modifying the tunnel or a 4-speed if you want a manual trans.  One option that I've heard works really well if you don't want to stay with an auto is the Gear Vendors overdrive.  https://www.gearvendors.com/hrdodge3s.html

Yeah, I've talked to Jamie at Passon. The wait is really long, and I'd be using all of the 4 speed stuff anyways. If that was the case, I'd just sell my car and go buy a finished 4 speed, then dump in the Passon unit. As it stands, I'm leaning towards the Silver Sport set up, as they have two approved installers in town here that say they are really straight forward with not alot of mods outside of the basic install and cutting a hole in the floor for the shifter.

Why is there a years long waiting list for the Passon performance 5 speed? That's ridiculous.

because its just Jamie and his dad or some other person building them that he approves.  Its roughly a 2.5 year wait out people who ordered in 2012 got theirs in 2015.....and after the first batch were sent out it got more popular after a reviewer talked about it and it becamse a 2.5 year wait....There has only been 2 people who have gotten them and all others have put 50% percent down.  There is a tally sheet at another forum its at roughly 450 people who put deposits down already.

That's just plain ridiculous!  I want one in my '68 but there is no way in hell I'm going to wait 2,5 years on a transmission.

I would see if there are any people with the same car that had an install and could be contacted and also verify that the driveline angles will be correct. My understanding is that my issue is at least in part related to the kit I purchased (not a Silver Sport set up).  Otherwise, I like the transmission a lot.
