Hi guys,

Tonight, a buddy dropped off a Mopar big block at my house. It doesn't have heads, intake, headers, oil pan, or distributor. I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on identifying it, what it's worth, or if I should scrap it. Should I slowly try to build as funds allow? What am I looking at if I were to build it stock or performance (once it's identified, of course), should I just make a table out of it? I'd love to hear what you guys have to say, if you need a picture of it, I can get one. It's covered in oil so I can't say what the numbers on the side of the block are until I go scrapin' and I'm jammied out for the night. Thanks in advance, dudes.

Thanks Polywideblock, that is helpful. This block doesn't have the flat spot on the right so I'm pretty sure it's a 400. I did read a "400" somewhere on the side.

engine size will be stamped on one of those pads

My 400 is stamped on the top pad and not the side.

Many people use the word "stamped" to describe the raised casting numbers on the block....there's a difference.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I see what you're saying. The serial cast on the side is raised while the engine size is "stamped" up front. Just for fun, let's assume the internals are in decent shape. Is it worth anything? Maybe for a trade? I have a mopar buddy in town who loves heavy parts, maybe I can get him for a trade.

Stock 400 internals, not much, 400 block- worth something to someone looking for one. The last 3 i got were free but ive seen assembled long block cores go upwards of 500 bucks.
