He is. He committed that murder a half hour from me. He was locked up for the crime he did not commit, true. But after he got out after all the years of being locked up, he could not adjust to outside prison life. Avery said that himself. Avery also admitted killing the girl because he wanted to go back to prison, and that was the only way it would happen, if he killed someone. Those are Avery's words. I remember that interview after the murder. I was told the movie doesn't even mention that. Avery also has a history of killing small animals for fun long before he even went to prison the first time. One of his relatives talked about Avery killing a cat by burning it alive in a pit fire. I know he killed dogs too. Governor Walker also has said, he will never give him a pardon.

So is he guilty ?

if you go by what the series shows, no.

I also want to say no, but truth is we didn't see and hear everything that the jury saw and heard.

In his movie, they never mentioned other evidence like her camera and other personal items that were found on his property.

How is it possible (in this perfect universe) that two yahoos can clean up ALL the physical evidence and then leave the car there?

It was a very riveting series to watch. After you got past the first 2 episodes it was hard to stop.

Here are my thoughts.

1. Brendan's a moron. I think if he was really witness to the murders a skilled interrogator (not Rosco and Enus) could get him to fold and give details that could be backed up with evidence. His account of the events from the interviews I saw do not support any solid or overwhelming evidence that was offered in the documentary.

2. The lack of significant blood evidence leads me to believe she was killed elsewhere other than the prosecutions suggestion of Avery's trailer or garage. IMO she was defiantly not killed where and the way it was described by Brendan.

3. I am suspicious of where the car was found. With all that property and the equipment available Avery could have disposed of it quickly and or at the very least hidden it much better than in tact near the entry to the yard. That being said I think the car was left to be found. Do I think the cops put it there - No......Also, IMO, it would take at least 2 people to move it to the location where it was found - 1 to drive it and 1 to pick the driver. It's not like from that location you could just grab a cab or walk back to town. I don't believe the car left the property after she arrived to take the pictures of the van for sale. I think it was put in the yard by someone who didn't need a ride away from the yard.

4. IMO, I think that detective Lenke and other cop, Holburn (spelling), moved  some of the evidence they found on the property in certain locations(like the key and maybe the bullet)  to areas that would ensure it made a stronger case against Avery. I don't think they fabricated evidence but I think they wanted to make sure he was nailed for the crime.

5. Avery was not smart enough to clean up a crime scene if she was killed like has been suggested. Further, he was a hairy mess so I have a hard time to believe if he was in her car there wouldnt be hair or fibres that would make a stronger connection.

6. With all the available property why would he burn her in the fire pit behind his house. There are much more secluded areas that would be more suitable. The fact that some remains were found in the gravel pit I think show a strong possibility she was burned there and then the remains moved to the fire pit. I don't think the cops did this I think whoever killed her did.  I think that person moved her from where she was killed in the back of the SUV to the gravel pit, burned her and the. Moved the remains to Avery's flit behind his house. If Steve killed her in the house as suggested and then burned her in the fire pit behind his trailer he would have no need to put her in the suv

At the end of the day I just don't know if he is guilty. Based on what was presented in the documentary I haven't been convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. I know a lot was left out and they made things much more dramatic then may be the actual case. However, I believe 100% that some members involved in the investigation acted to deceive, lie, and taint evidence to ensure a conviction. Based on that I think he deserve a new trial.

Personally from some of the other facts I've read since watching the series I think his brother did it. He worked at the yard and had, from what I've read, 2 past sexual assault charges and was a little creepy around women coming to the yard.

ACUDANUT

I think one of the Avery's did it.  Why they did not burn & crush the suv is beyond me.
It's a shame such a Pretty and happy woman was murdered  :flame:

DC_1 this wasn't a "documentary" even though it was called that it was a made for TV movie, a lot of key details were left out as a lot of people have pointed out because they didn't fit the "script" or view the producers and directors want to put fourth....it was supposed to make the cops and prosecution attorneys look like bumbling fools
This is a classic case of the media/hollywood trying to influence people, this should really scare people because it shows just how much influence the media really has over people.....

Ok maybe documentary was a poor choice of word. I realize it was opinion based and assembled in a way that made for good tv. However, key things to me are the lack of significant blood evidence for the manner in which the crime was suppose to have committed....... Sorry but I do think the prosecution and investigators were bumbling fools. They made statements in press conferences and interrogation video shown throughout the series that was completely false.

Just some random musings:

1) I both laughed and cringed every time that they showed someone wearing  Kasey Kahne era NASCAR Dodge jackets and/or hats. It happened a few times with different people, including Steven.

2) I doubt I was the only one who perked up every time they showed footage of the junkyard, hoping to spot a mopar - classic or otherwise - of interest.

3) Was "glasses girl" reporter hot or what? I may have developed a school boy crush.

I believe he did it. But I do not believe the account given by his nephew. I suspect he killed her off the property. Transported her body to the quarry in her own vehicle and burned her there and dumped the vehicle somewhere. The local police planted the vehicle and some of remains on his property just to tidy things up, which was wrong.

Even his then girlfriend Jodi is speaking out against him now. She says he was very violent. He threatened to kill and burn her family if she didn't do what he wanted. Fire is a reoccurring theme with this guy.

:drool5:I wish they gave her more screen time!

Is she a local reporter? She needs to move up to a National broadcast. I'd watch her all night even if it was just the weather channel!

Looking at the whole picture...of the whole spell-bound tv edit, possibly even a hypnotic-type influence on us, and presenting a heavily biased view to a real incident with real footage... I think those cops are in serious serious trouble. Once you get everyone involved, there's gonna be trouble.

Is change my mind, he's guilty!

Theres a lot coming out about how the documentary left out a lot of stuff regarding evidence against Avery that makes it a not so clear cut "oh my god, he was framed" situation.

But the point of the doc is not to show that hes guilty/not guilty, but that he didnt get a fair trail. Those are two entirely different things.
