I have a 1971 HP 440.
Was told it is a 6pack engine. It does have the external weight balancer.
Looking at engine codes.  C is for a 1967 440?  a is for .020 over sized cyl bores?
Bottom left stamp is a 2

polywideblock

isn't G a 71 block   :scratchchin:  could be a " light " stamping   :yesnod:

  and 71 GA4  383 magnum  SE

oestermarken

G440 = 71 440
2-10 = Feb. 10. Build date
HP(A) = High Power (Fist shift)
Inverted "A" = Oversize Bore

Red = Not shure

That is probably a G. I believe all 71 440 HP's (440-4 and 440-6) had the heavier "Six Pack" rods and the offset balancer. Also - A lot of those other stamps don't always pan out with what they are supposed to be.

12-8-70 casting date makes it a 71 model year. Yes, a '71 HP would have the heavy rods but only a visual inspection of the pistons will verify if it's an actual 6-pack.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for the info. Took the pics when I got the engine a couple years ago. Just looked again it is a G stamp.
What is the difference with 6 pack pistons ?.

The 6-pack pistons have 4 valve reliefs and a taller pin height (sit higher in the bore).
