Putting together an A body??

My 72 Charger is a great car and all, but I have been thinking about putting together an A body. When a classic car has great paint, you just wont take it to a lot of places. Thats how it is with my Charger.

A classic that doesn't have great paint, but is a kick azz car in every other way would be a blast. Something to drive every day, or regularly if I want to. So I have been kicking around an A body, up to 72, desert car so it has virtually no rust, original faded paint is preferd, as long as the body is straight. Upgrade the suspension and brakes, and manual trans for some fun. Put some nice wheels and tires just for the half nice, half crap look. For the engine a stroker small block would work very well, or go with a gen III Hemi keeping the factory fuel injection. Completely restore the interior with sound deadener and great sound system.

This gem is on local CL right now. A Demon would be perfect, but this is close.

A-bodies are great, but rapidly increasing in value ( at least in Europe ), so its probably just the right time to buy cars like this if you are living in the states.
the A-body you linked looked like the perfect sleeper to put a angry small-block in..   :scratchchin:

67-69 darts are my favorite  :D

People drive cars with brand new paint off dealer lots every day.

Life is too short to not enjoy a classic car just because of the paint.

cool idea  :2thumbs:  68-71 darts or 70-72 dusters/demons are great looking cars   :scratchchin:

Agreed. I think my Charger paint turned out great, but I don't let that keep me from enjoying it. I have drove it a lot, and it has actually got a couple of scratches, and dings. It can always be repainted.

Now back to topic, I would love to have an A body one day, I really want a 67-69 Barracuda, next to that I would like to have a Duster or Demon.

Just drive the Charger.  What's the point of having it if you can't enjoy it every day?  When your time comes it'll just be sitting in the garage looking pristine instead of having stories to tell its next owner.   :2thumbs:

I understand not wanting to scratch the paint and all but it's keeping you from enjoying your car.  It'll still be a sweet ride even with some dings and scratches.   :yesnod:
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Once you drive around in an A-body for a season, you'll switch back to a B-body.

I know that duster well. It belongs to my sons friend. We helped him quit a bit over the years trying to get it running after it sat for a long time. Its definitely a project.

I just picked up an A body myself on a Impulse buy.  :scratchchin:
I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friend
"That's us in 10 years".
He said "That's a mirror, dip-shit!

Sounds like a great idea.  :2thumbs:

I like A-Bodies & have had several over the years & only have one right now. I've had it since 1988 & have modified it over the years to where it's a lot of fun to drive. The only thing I wish I did to it was swap over to disc brakes. I had it repainted around 1993 or 1994 & kept the original color. I've never worried too much about what happens to it because it wasn't an expensive paint job, just one to make it presentable.

The Charger is great. No intention of letting it go. I just have this urge to do something, create something a little different.

Listing is gone, did you buy it?

My '70 Valiant also has the 318 & 3-speed stick, very fun to drive & it averages 21.5 mpg, much better than my /6 car.
