Just remember that in our part of the world (Ontario) if the smog police stop you to have a look your car it has to conform to the pollution standards of what ever is newer your car or the car motor
So if you go the 5.7 route you have to move all the smog stuff also which would take all the joy out of doing it  :eek2:

QuoteI never liked the 383 B engine that was in my charger, it was a slug and I have no idea why. It was built good with a good mid- size cam, good pistons 9.2 to 1, and headers and a Mopar/edelbrock intake (DP4B) and it just didn't perform. Now my buddy had a 69 super bee with a 383 that ran great and had what seemed like alot more hp than my charger and it was mostly stock. When the 440 went in I had what felt more like a muscle car then. Not a 383 hater but for the price of rebuilding you can build the 440 for the same and it's easier to get the hp and torque out of it IMO.

I wonder if standard-issue 383 pistons suffer from the same lack of compression height that 440s do.

The pistons I used in my build were the speed pro 2315's flattop's forged. They wasn't down in the hole at all. I have used the other replacement pistons on a couple of builds and they still ran better than my car!! Just my luck I guess, like I said before when the 440 went in my low power issues went away.

Awesome update:
Turns out the other party that was supposed to be getting the original 383 I was after pulled a no show on Saturday.  My buddy picked it up last night, and I now have a complete 383, disassembled, rods #'d, all bagged and tagged.  Should be ordering that edlebrock top end later this week, along with a rebuild kit.

Now for the tough question ...  Do I stroke it?  Opinions greatly appreciated!  :2thumbs:

Im not a fan of the edlebrock "package" their cams are not very good in my opinion. I would build my own package.

This is what I have always understood to be true.   If I were building it then I would rely on the experts here to guide me on part selection.    Give them BUDGET, TARGET FOR POWER, THE PRIMARY TYPE OF DRIVING YOU DO, THE REAR GEARS YOU WILL BE RUNNING, ECT. and they can give you a layout for a better package than what Edelbrock sells.   :yesnod:   :2thumbs:   :Twocents:
