Window glass stop

My car has tinted windows but the passenger side had been replaced with clear glass somewhere down the line.  I bought a tinted window and today removed the clear glass.  The trim on the back of the clear glass has a plastic stop as seen in the first picture.  The channel in the door also has a stop.

The tinted glass I have does not have this stop in the trim as seen in picture 2.  Does this matter?  With power windows will the glass be forced into the roof rail rubber without this stop?  The trim on the tinted glass does not have a provision to install the plastic stop so if the stop is needed then I'll have to swap the trim.  How do I remove this without busting the glass?

the window glass stops are bolted on the door, not in the glass or the channel

Dino

Ah.  So what's the plastic thingie for?

cant remember seeing that plastic thingy on mine  , although it was soo long ago  now , may be its to stop the weatherstrip sliding down when raising the window  :shruggy:   , I did change that weather strip , on the back edge of the glass with a repop one  .

the  door glass  stop is actually  in on / through  the glass , on  mine a plastic thingy with a phillips screw through the middle

It's funny, I used your how to thread when I removed the glass and mine doesn't have that stop there.  It only has a plastic thingie in the middle of the glass to secure the slider bracket.

I don't see what the point of this plastic thing is so I'll just use the tinted glass without it.   :yesnod:

 Dino,
Anti rattle plastic, your stops are like a L bracket, and have a rubber oring on them
:2thumbs:

Dino

Do you happen to have a pic of that L bracket?  I don't think I've come across that.

Anti rattle huh?  Well darn I hope I can do without it cuz I don't like to idea of swapping the trim on the glass.  Funny thing is the glass rattles when it's all the way down and you slam the door shut.

I have the same problem??? one of my channels has the plastic thingy too!

It was hooked to a spring which allowed it to slide up and down a half inch or so.
This was on the passenger side door, maybe one of the doors was replaced due to an accident?
This on a 70 RT.

I wonder which is correct??

My first attempt to replace the window seals were with 15" long ones,
which were obviously not as long as the originals as I could see where the originals were glued.

So purchased 20" one from Megaparts that will work on the channel without the "thingy",
but is too long for that one.

Hope someone can help us out with some facts, maybe we need to swap channels for uniformity??

Joe

PS, I see yours is the pass. side too

Dino

Well I took the driver's side glass out today and it has the same plastic thingie in the channel AND it has the glass stop as posted in Tan Top's post at the rear of the glass.  Now the way the glass is attached to to the slider bracket is different as well.  On the driver's side it's a plastic plug with a pin in it to spread out the plug and on the passenger side it has a longer plug with a philips screw so that must be the stop.

Question: the glass stop on the driver's side, the one that goes through the rear of the glass, disintegrated when I removed it.  Does anyone repop these?

Also, when I removed the driver's side door glass from the vent window frame there's some plastic and felt guide on the glass.  I don't have one for the passenger side, all that's left are the plastic retainers.  Does anyone sell these guides?

Never mind, I found the stop and found the vent guide.  I had to pick myself up off the floor.  I'm having a hard time believing they're asking 70-90 bucks for that guide.  It's thin plastic with some felt on it.  That's insulting.  Anyone have a used one they don't need?
