Does anyone have experience with the Pertronix plug n play distributors on a 440? I was thinking about getting one with the ignitor 3 modual to replace my stock distributor.  right now I just have the Pertronix 1 module in a stock auto zone distributor but I am sure it's getting tired.  I talked to Pertronix and they said I may need to grind on the head a little for fitment because the new distributor itself is wider.  Just wondering if anyone has tackled this issue.

I didn't have good luck. I tried the first gen Pertronix on my 67 Charger and it ruined the factory tach in the dash. I took it off immediately.
When I called I got the same bull***t about "well you have to go to Radio Shack and ....". No, I don't think so. I took it off and went with Chrysler performance Electronic.
Now, on the other hand other folks have used it with success like your self.  So, I guess you take your chances.

Why not consider a FireCore ready to run distributor ? It is dimensionally the same as a stock distributor so there's no grinding required and it has lots of nice features and is very user friendly to install and tune.  :2thumbs:

Ron thank you, I was not aware of that, just looked it up, perfect.  Do you know if it's easy to change the springs? Are they on top like a delco distributor or would you have to take the plates out?  Ryan

Hi Ryan,

The easiest way to replace the springs is to remove the top plate....only takes a few minutes. That being said it is possible to swap them out using a small set of needlenose pliers. I've done it both ways and they both took about the same amount of time. Removing the plate was less aggravating though

The RTR comes with 2 blue springs installed from the factory which brings the total timing all in by 2400 rpm. There are lighter & heavier springs in the kit to speed up or slow down the curve.  :2thumbs:

I've found that most mild street builds like the 2 blue spring combination when using iron heads. The curve is not too quick which keeps detonation at bay. The mechanical advance is fully adjustable and comes preset with 22* of mechanical advance and I usually recommend setting the base timing at 14-16* at idle which yields 36-38* total. Bumping up the initial really wakes the beast up ; increased idle vacuum, stronger throttle response and a joy to drive.  :icon_smile_big:

Ron it looks like I need the Mancini number cws 90432.  Last question, I'm still running the ballast resistor with just one extra wire going to it for the Pertronix under my stock distributor.  How will this wire up? One wire to the coil and the other back to the ballast? 12 volts side of the ballast?
