I installed edelbrock shocks on my car on all four corners today.  I know longer like the stance of the car.  They dropped the rear end way too much in my opinion.  I did have on the back factory coil over shocks.  Does anyone know where I can buy this same shock?

Rockauto.com has these for $66 Pr

But if you add 1 or 2 more leaf springs the back end would go up more and you could use those shocks. I think you have a better ride , won't feel as hard. The leaf springs are what is souppost keep the back up not the shocks. The shocks are for the bumps to smooth them out.

I agree. The leaf springs hold the car up on their own. The shocks slow down the bumps. You need new springs. I bought mine at manciniracing.com. They are the XH R/T springs with 6 springs opn one side and 7 on the passenger. The ride height is stock and it looks great. The ride is frim enough to inspire confidence but not too harsh. Get the leaf springs. No Charger ever came with coil over shocks.

coil springs on the rear shocks really hurt the traction as it will unload the rear tires + it is not kind to the upper shock mount
new springs are a far better idea

I like the coil over shocks, and they are better than air shocks to get the rear end up.  Alot cheaper than adding new leaf springs and u-bolts.

True, but you cannot expect the shock absorber to replace the leaf spring as they work hand in hand. This is just a band aid for the original problem which is poor leaf springs. Add a new set of springs or try to have yours re-arched and if need be add extra leafs and use the new shocks and you will be much further ahead. Your ride height wil be where you want it and your launching and handling will be greatly improved.

I agree fully with these guys. The topic of raising the ride height of the car via the shocks has been pretty well entertained and it seems that most have concluded that it will do more harm than good.

If you are using air shocks, coil overs, or any other shock that lifts the car up, keep in mind it is lifting the car using the mounting points of the shock crossmember and the lower studs. This is obviously not where the weight of the back of the car was intended to be distributed. When I had the rear out of my Charger and was messing around with stuff the shock crossmember member, while there and solid, was still fairly flexible back and forth just using my hand. I would never trust the upper shock crossmember to hold the weight of my car.

If you have a noteworthy machine shop or related in your area, I'll bet you could pull your springs and have them re-arched for fairly cheap, and could even throw in some extra inches to get he right height up. Also, there is a seller on Ebay, Mcveighs truck springs or something like that that I know a few members here have bought springs from and been satisfied with. He offers 2-3" + of extra ride height and if I remember correctly he was selling pairs for like $180 or so. Also, is it the height of the car you are upset about or the stance? Maybe you could see what looked like lowering the front end some to compensate?

Personally I think you did your car a favor taking even the coil shocks out from under there (at least they weren't air shocks!).

Where can I get the correct U bolts.  I am thinking about longer ones to add more springs.

Are you sure the shocks are the correct length?  It sounds like they may be too short and keeping the springs down...  Shocks shouldn't change the height at all...

Coil over and air shocks will change the ride height. I had both when I was young and broke and could not afford springs.

I believe Mancini and many others have the longer "U"-bolts.  In many cases they are needed for SS springs. Anyone that sells lowering blocks should also sell longer U-bolts. More than likely Dr. Diff too....

Any local spring shop can re-arch your springs, add springs and make u-bolts from scratch. Faster and cheaper generally as no shipping charges!
