I have this challenger(sorry) that I have all back together now except it has been a lot of work wiring it. I think I have all the engine harness in place, had to replace a few wires. I tried turning the engine over and the only way I could get it to go was jumping the starter wire with the hot. Turning the key does nothing.

All I would like to know at this point is what wires should be connected to the starter relay. So far I have the postive battery, starter, fusible link(connceted to a large red wire coming from the fuseblock), and one small yellow wire from the fuseblock. It seems there might be a wire missing since there is a terminal that is empty on the relay.

Most of the harness going to the drivers side of the car is for the lights and the horn(once again this is a challenger) What are the total number of wires for ignition that should lead out the drivers side?

I might as well ask now, does anyone have a list of wires/color and function that come from the fuseblock to the engine bay, inginition related only please.

Thanks

Assuming it's an automatic transmission the empty terminal on the starter relay goes to the middle terminal on the neutral safety switch.

Yes, thank you for that. I wondered if that wasn't it.
That helps greatly!

Now on to that list or diagram. I would just like to know where everthing is going to out there in the bay.

2 wires are damaged or burnt under the dash. One of them is a large red one coming out of the steering column. I am not sure what they are for. Is There anyway to find out?

thanks again/

Year ?
-Brown traced yellow, coming to central terminal of NSS to G terminal on starter relay
-Yellow wire coming from ignition switch to IG prong of starter relay.
-Red coming from batt to Starter relay stud... then to bulkhead conector with a fuse link-ammeter-ignition switch ( red too ).

-Blue wire coming from ignition switch, is spliced on engine harness up to ballast resistor, voltage regulator and alt brush...also to ECU module if is equipped.
-Brown wire coming from ignition switch up to ballast resistor and spliced from terminal up to + lead of coil.

IF is points distribuitor, then the - lead of coil is wired with dist wire.

IF is Ignition module ( 4 pins ): dist pick up wires up to Ignition module and a black wire from Ignition Module to - lead of coil.

IF ignition module is 5 pins: green wire from one of pins up to secondary resistance of ballast. Ballast has to be double one and blue wire feeded two input prongs like a jumper.

That's all to start the engine.

That red wire is the main 12v feed to the ignition switch.

Nacho, Sorry to break in, but while your on the subject, I also have a 74 Challenger.
If I was to wire an electric fuel pump to the ing. key, which wire in the speering column should I splice into???

IMHO, from blue one from anywhere from ignition switch up to alt brush on engine harness ( regulator, ballast, choke control ) but use a relay. There is already enough load on that line to feed another device.

almost forget... on starter relay also:
-black wire, from starter relay small screw up to solenoid on starter motor.

My suggestion woul be for you to invest in a Factor Assembly Instruction Manual for your specific car
