I everybody, I am ne here and would like to share what I found today worth sharing to the group.

This past week a bus hit my minivan and today I left my car at the shop. Just place your avid eyes on this rare beauty, yes, ladies and gentleman, a 68 Dodge Charger R/T being restored in Tijuana, where I have seen at least 3 others being daily drivers.

I will share more pictures of the Charger tomorrow or Wednesday when I stop by to pick up my minivan.

I have no idea, its not mine, I just happened to be dropping my own car for work. I will try to take a picture of the VIN if the shop foreman allows it.

Any reason?

TJbowen.

Any reason?
Are you really that naive? Cars make their way south for many reasons....SOME of them legal, others are not. It can be very difficult to "extradite" a stolen car.

Yeah, don't mean to be a dick but I'm thinking the same thing...

1974dodgecharger

lmao....love this dude has 3 posts and all in mexico....and then claims don't know if their is a vin then claims their clean  :icon_smile_big:

TJbowen

Naive? No, are you?

I am an attorney at Law, I make a living being practical, now, there is a chance the car may be hot, still, the purpose of the post is no other than to share the pictures I uploaded, still, I will try to take a picture of the VIN, because if it is stolen I would want the rightful registered owner to get it back.

JB400

You'll have to excuse some of the people here.  They jump on a bandwagon quick, and ride it down hill being led by 2 blind horses going opposite directions.  But, if you could get the vin's to see if they're legitamately supposed to be down there or not, it would be greatly appreciated by all parties.  We do have quite a few people here that have had their cars stolen.

TJbowen

Stolen cars move across international borders, I had one stolen 10 years ago and guess where I found it? San Diego, CA in the ol¨USA. So lets be fair.

I will definitely try to get the VIN of that red 68, making no promisses, as to the other 68 for sale in Coahuila, I found that online.

TJbowen

Cars get carjacked in SD more than they do here in Tijuana, I have the evidence provided by the San Diego Police Dpt, stats, if you dont know the facts based to your biased views clouding your judgment dont post, enough said!.

Be careful about getting that vin.   They are real touchy about that down there.   (personal experience)

They would everywhere. Would you share your VIN here and now? Please do!

You asked if anyone would share their VIN number.... look right in my post. There is nothing to hide if you OWN it.

If I get arrested in Tijauna, do you know a good lawyer to call?  :shruggy:

Are you normally this bitter or is the fact that I am from south of the border that bothers you?

Shouldn't we be discussing worthwhile issues? Just asking because so far all I read is hateful and stupid remarks. I don't think the moderators foster this behavior, or do them, I came here to discuss cars, not national or cultural differences.

WOW, first night and you've made it to here already. You asked if anyone would post their VIN numbers.. mine are right in my signature. What are you missing.... I could care less where you are from.  Hell the guys here almost accept me and I'm from Canada!  :pity:

It must be winter... :eyes:

I have about 20,000 pictures of Chargers. I know the VIN numbers on maybe 4 of them (and I've owned 7 so that should tell you how much it concerns me). I don't make a habit of peering inside or under someone else's car so it annoys me to no end when people poke around on my cars. And I'm in Ohio! Frankly I'd be pissed if someone came up to one of my cars automatically assuming it was stolen. People suck. It's yet another reason I really don't go to shows.

Having said that, if a bunch of people on the internet who I don't even know were harassing me about getting a VIN number for them I'd tell them where they could stick it.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

tsmithae

 :iagree:

If someone actually had a car matching the description to a "T" it would be a different story.  If someone knows of a car matching this description which has been stolen then speak up.  otherwise appreciate another Charger fan and thank him for the pictures.

People always look at VINs at shows to see if a car is original Hemi car or 6pack- whatever...doesn't bother me.  That could be your excuse to look at it I suppose.   :shruggy:

The one I dont get is people hiding their license plate number in CL ads. Never understood that- why not hide it all the time?  ::)

anyway.....

skip68

At a show I expect it.  No big deal.  But privately like at a shop I wouldn't want people looking in my car or around it.  It's not there on display know what I mean.

I'm with you. What are they hiding? Anyone on a public road could snap a picture and get the same thing. What are these assclowns trying to hide?

I'm going to try to be a voice of reason here.  You have to understand that to some of us, these old cars represent not just a pile of metal, rubber, gas and oil; they represent years of hard work, blood, sweat, tears and a lot of money.  You have to understand that when and if the mere IDEA of something bad or harmful to some our life's work is brought up then yes, there will be many emotionally charged responses and opinions on the matter.  So try and understand that the hostility isn't actually directed at you, but rather the idea of bad people that exist to do bad things to otherwise good, defenseless people.  In this case, we're talking about our highly cherished cars.

Now, is there a stigma or a pre judgement towards Mexico and the idea of valuable things being taken there through theft?  Let's be honest, of course there is.  Now I'm not condoning prejudice or pre judgement, but no one can deny that thievery with a destination across the border exists.   Now if you take that into account along with how passionate we are about our cars, and protective about ourselves as an online Charger community, then you should see why some members here would be abrasive.

Again, please understand this isn't about you, it's about the low life scum that ruins things for everyone else, and these people can be anywhere, not just south of the border, but keep in mind that the classic car community, especially the Mopar community, and with great emphasis on the Charger commuity, is a very tight group that looks after one another like no other...

Okay. I will admit here that I was not in the Welcome wagon when the OP came aboard. When I see anyone post ads about these cars with such crazy low prices, it sets off an alarm. Add to that all the media buzz lately about Mexican crime, exaggerated or not, the fire just got bigger. I work in construction with a lot of hard working Mexican and Guatamalan guys. I'd have no problem loaning them tools or money. They are all great guys. Not all the people that cross the border are in gangs, stealing stuff or selling drugs. When I see nice cars being advertised for 1/10th of their value in a border towns, it is hard to turn off your instincts.
Now, some of us were not kind to you. I am sorry that I wasn't more friendly to you. I am a smart ass by nature, that is difficult to convey through a keyboard. My comments about lawyers are surely nothing you have not heard. My Brother in Law is a personal injury Attorney. He is the one that told me the joke.
Being proud of your profession is fine, but offering up without being asked seemed like bragging. I know, we all bitch about lawyers.... until we need one.
I'm proud of my work and do not feel belittled by manual labor work. Somebody has to build the houses we live in, someone has to build the schools the kids attend. I could have gone to Harvard or Yale.....had I been accepted.    :smilielol:

Overseas thefts occur but they are much harder than just driving the stolen car across a border.
