Seen this 71 Super Bee on ebay. looked nice. My Question for the experts is would a car built in June of 1971 have a #'s matching motor from November of 1970? Motor seems kinda to early. Was wondering if a restamp? LEON.

71 SE3834V

For what it's worth:
My '71 SE 383 was built in Nov 70. Matching #'s engine has a date code stamped in the pad of 11 - 10. There is no casting # on my block.  :shruggy: Engine has been hot tanked down to bare metal and I couldn't find a casting date. Maybe someone can educate me on the symbols under the casting number. I assume the D, N means day/night shift?

Hemi, I would say it's a year correct engine that was re-stamped. Either that or they found an engine that had been laying around for a while.
Could it had been a warrantied engine that was restamped w/the vin using a block that was built in Nov.?

I wouldn't be so sure to throw this car's numbers matching status "under the bus" so easily.  :icon_smile_angry:

Lynch Rd. would've had a number (5 I believe for US spec.) of 383HP 4bbl engine assemblies on hand to build their assigned '71 b-bodies - E65/manual transmission/N96 was probably the "rarest" and Super Bee ONLY & its inventory would've moved slowly during the year's production.  A relatively early cast engine block 11*17*70  (we haven't seen the engine assembly date) ending up in a early-June assembled car (7 months later when they are using up the last of their '71 specific model year inventory) doesn't even start to sound questionable.

& that engine VIN stamp looks spot-on, just like the transmission - again nothing questionable

myk

That's an excellent car for the money they're asking.   At that price, one could almost say to hell with 2nd Gen's  and their ridiculous prices, especially at that price level...

Correct, D-N is the day or night shift associated with the clock to the right.

I've been to this dealer before with a friend to check out a '71 Charger R/T a few years back....a 5 hour ride from NY....all I can say is do your homework & see the car in question in PERSON. (as you should with all classic car purchases) :Twocents:

Cool. Any idea why there is no casting date?

I made contact w/the selling and asked if the I.D. pad could be shown w/the build date. Answer was, it could not be provided in time for the end of the auction.

Excellent car I just didn't think 3rd gens were worth that much even for an SB 4sd survivor w/1 repaint & engine rebuild. Does the R/T, SB w/4sd drive the price up that much?
Wondering, Where would my original steel (no outer body rust holes) '71 SE BB, auto w/1 or 2 repaints and a recent engine rebuild fall in the price world? I know big diff in the SE auto & R/T, SB 4 spd. I've been figuring w/what I've always read that I'd be lucky to get the $9k out of it that I've put into it.

Ok, enough hijacking.

For my 2 cents worth.......that's the kind of build date I'd expect to see.
