Feedback on the Rhino Car Storage Bag:

Hi all,

Just curious to hear of any feedback with regards to this item keeping the moisture / condensation from attacking our cars. With all garages being different, mine is: a Carolina fully enclosed garage (not bad, but not the greatest) with smoothed out stone millings as the floor vs. concrete. Although my garage is fully enclosed, my primary concern is combating moisture condensation here on the east coast. Do you feel that this would be ideal for my specific scenario? Here is the link:

Well, my  would be this: before you spend that kind of money on a bag, how about going to Lowes or Walmart and purchasing a dehumidifier?
That is what I plan to do in my garage next year when it is built. It will keep all the dampness away which would be a good thing for what ever is in the garage.
They are about half that price or less for a good one and if you get one that has a hose attachment on it, you run the hose to a drain and never have to worry about emptying it again unless you need distilled water for something.

Thanks man for the reply. I'd like to go for one (dehumidifier), but the only concern that I have is that my Carolina carport garage isn't fully sealed at the corners. So, if I get one in there - how much good would it do is the big question. Most local storage units want dang near $200 / month, so if I don't go w/ a dehumidifier, I may have no choice but to go with one of the bags (called Rhino storage bags) or a bubble for $400+ linked below:

seeing as one is powered and one isn't first question should be, is there a chance of blackout/ power failure ? one works regardless the other   

           I don't have either of them , but its the first question I'd ask

Good point too & something to think about. I almost bought the rhino car storage bag today, but then I began to wonder if it will truly keep out the moisture / condensation + actually cause the inside to 'sweat' if its non-breathable. Thus, causing another concern with regards to mildew. I suppose I could always 'try' a dehumidifier (with a breathable car cover on top & good tarp underneath) since I've heard folks mention how their basements aren't sealed up the greatest yet still they work well and return the dehumidifier unit within 90 days if not satisfied,  . Something to sleep on in the meantime...

could you "trap " a couple of "closet camels" and put them in the bag under the car( maybe one behind each wheel ) and just change them every couple of weeks

Unsealed garage - yes, that would change things Capt.  I have seen those ones that blow air in at Moparfest. Essentially a big bubble with airflow.
Not sure if it is the same unit but I believe there is a provision for some sort of UPS.  After all it is only a backward vacuum cleaner basically. No doubt it would NOT run for an extended period of time though.

Thanks guys for the many replies. I opted not to go with a Rhino bag at this time since, if moisture can still get in, I'd rather not 'trap' that in my car for breath-ability sake. Hopefully I made the right decision for the time being...

My kid brother bought one of the storage bags for his car several years ago.  It came with about a dozen dessicant bags.  He stored it inside an unheated shed.  In the spring there was condensation on the inside of much of the bag.  His brake discs were very rusty and the car felt almost damp when we took it out of the bag.  There is a lot of moisture in your car before you bag it and unless you can keep air flowing I don't think they can work very well.  I wouldn't recommend it in a colder climate.  Better to buy a small fan and keep air moving under the car.

Ouch, I am very sorry to learn of this. But, thank you for posting as this is exactly the type of feedback I was looking to learn about (pros/cons). In the meantime, I bought a few of the smaller dehumidifiers that can be recharged like a cell phone can be, and, a larger unit from Lowes. We had some damp weather a bout a week ago and (surprisingly) the smaller rechargeable units that I had placed under the car actually kept the vehicle condensation free. So, between them and the larger unit (that can treat up to 500 square feet) I have my fingers and toes crossed that these tools will help to combat moisture/condensation.

Just to share my recent finds and experiences with others, I picked up the smaller rechargeable dehumidifiers at Tractor Supply and even Target. Thus far, I have three under the car but I may even add a fourth one inside the vehicle just for peace of mind.
