2015 Severe weather & flooding

The town where my business is located (Union, Missouri) is getting hit with flooding... again...   This is not why we'd like to make the national news, for sure.

Some of the Aero guys will recognize the Super8 motel in the photo below, as it has been the host hotel multiple times for the Aero Car reunions/get-togethers at Rich Bolzenius' house before the Monster Mopar shows.

The building two doors down from where I'm at (maybe 1/4 mile away from the Super8 as the crow flies) had water up to within 18" of its finished floor, but the storage unit buildings next to it were all flooded.  Not fun.

Anyone else being affected by all the severe weather?

:o. Man geno, I hope you're up on higher elevation and vehicles safe.
Be safe and be smart.

SW MO, same story.  Several towns underwater.   One football field has water clear up to the crossbars.  We had one country singer go missing while duck hunting with a buddy.  The buddy and the boat were found.  The entire town of Lamar was completely shut off for a short while.

Thanks Skip, we should be fine where I'm at anyway.  The Daytona & truck are both tucked away with probably 5-6' of elevation difference between them and the floodwaters.  Not too far away from the motel, a new JimmyJohn's literally opened last week in a brand-spanking new building - but they're waist-deep in muddy water now. The good thing is that everything seems to have crested today and will slowly be on the way down.  Then comes the cleanup   :eek2:

Being inconvenienced for a few days or weeks with some road closures is nothing compared to what some of these folks will be dealing with for a long time.

I read about the missing singer who went duck hunting in the big winter storm.    :o :'(

Did your business get flooded?   5-6 feet above flood water is scary close.   Glad it's on the down slide.

This is really bad.  I heard about it on the news and have been worried.  I am sorry to hear about it.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

myk

State of national emergency, last I heard.  I hope any members close to this are OK...

The floodwater is definitely receding since yesterday, leaving a muddy mess in its place.

Below is a photo I took yesterday morning, of the flood water (already going down, judging by the line of mud deposits).  The water was just getting onto UPS's parking lot, which is literally right next door to mine - although my location is "up the hill" by several feet.  I wasn't too worried about flooding over the weekend even with all the dire predictions they were making, but it was a relief yesterday when we saw that the water wasn't still rising.  No one expected it to get this high.

As bad as it is, so far no one in the immediate area has been injured AFAIK.  Everything happened pretty gradually, which was a good thing (if it has to happen at all, that is).  There are other areas of the country with much greater tragedies to deal with than this, for sure.

That's sounds like a little too close for comfort to me.  :o

Hope you come out relatively unscathed.

Gene,
Glad to hear you and yours are out of harms way!
I recognized several sites on the national news from trips to your place
and running through the area on our Aero meet held there.
BE SAFE!

My only family left in Mo. is out by KC.

I was on the Weather Channel looking at all the photos & couldn't help but wonder where you were located in all that and if you & yours was safe?

Stay safe & take care, Happy New Year too!

It's been bad here in Ga too. Never seen so much rain in a short time!!! It hasn't rained here in a few days now but the flood waters still haven't went down but a few feet. I am up a little higher than most of the houses around me and mostly it's just muddy as crap here but it is getting better slowly. Got the charger out today and drove it around a little bit. It was barely dry enough to get it out of the shop but it needed to be drove to the store atleast just to get it out and let it run some. It didn't want to start at all since it's been sitting for a few weeks now. Need to start it up a little more often in these winter months I guess. Hope nobody has had any flooding in their homes on here since we have had some crazy weather lately on the east coast....
