Seen an SRT8 Charger with dealer tags yesterday. Black with white stripes and white "HEMI 6.1" on the hood. I must say, that one is the best looking turd I have seen to date. Anyone test drove a 6.1 yet?

Charger1970

Not a 6.1 but I did test drive a 5.7 Magnum and was surprised at the power it had. They had two Magnum SRTs there that looked very cool.

Everything I read says the Magnum is selling lousy but they were not willing to come off the sticker too much. Too bad, I was really interested.

At a different dealership I ended up buying a 2005 Ram Daytona with a 5.7. I told the salesman to call me when the new Challenger arrived. He thought I was joking.

I told him no...really... ;D

My roomate just bought a Chrysler 300 SRT8.  I cant believe how nice of a ride it is with all that power.  If I had the money, I'd buy a SRT8 Magnum.  You basically have to buy the car to get a testdrive.

A buddy of mine called me the other day while romping on a new SRT-8.  He said it felt just as fast as a mutual friend's hot 440.

Once the 6.1L Hemis start showing up on the used market, the used 5.7L ones will probably get a lot cheaper.  Cool.

TheGhost

We've a 6.1 Magnum here.  They don't allow test drives on that car.  I asked.  They directed me to a standard Magnum R/T.  Shame.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Big Lebowski

Maybe if you flash a waad of cash at the salesman, you can drive the SRT-8, and cook the tires off of it.
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

My friend actually bought his used, so he didn't have to pay the 15 THOUSAND dealer markup that everyone in California seems too willing to pay. :rotz:  Some guy bought the car, then four months later traded it in on a SRT8 Grand Cherokee when they came out.

I can understand someone doing that.

I just can't understand paying 30K in dealership markups. Especially on top of the 2K Gas Guzzler Tax for each car.  I guess some people just have money to burn.  Atleast they are supporting the economy. ;D

Mike DC

I say go for it.  Let 'em pay.

Whatever those dumb dildos have to pay that might cause the Challenger concept to get greenlit.  Whatever it takes.

But his friend's 440 car probably isn't butt-ugly.

I've seen them in the high 12's.

Cool. Now if they'd put it in something worth looking at we'd be in business. FWIW, when I saw a pair of them running the strip last summer the best they could do was high 14s, but I don't know what engine they had. I believe it was the 5.7L.

You don't like the car, WE ALL KNOW THAT!!  This thread wasn't started to shit on the car, but you always do just that.   ::)

If you don't have something good to say dude...never mind.   My car's going in the shop where yours is so I better not say anymore, I don't want a terd laying on it.  :P

I'd settle for pulling one out of a wrecked SRT-8, and putting it between the fenders of my Barracuda. :D

Mid to upper 13s would be about right for a driver of average ability in an-off-the lot SRT-8 with a 6.1 - which is approximately what off-the-lot Chargers with a 426 could do in '68.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.

That's good. The faster it goes the harder it is for me to see it. :icon_smile_cool:

I've heard of a LOT of them in the 12's. The 5.7's can run high 13's.

I would venture to say the new SRT8 charger's are running the quarter in a quicker time than a stock HEMI car from the late 60's was. I don't recall any of the stock HEMI's being in the 12's, and very few of them in the low 13's, with most of them being around 13.4-13.9.
