Alright, I now have my 440 from a 1977 dodge pickup truck and I need to get it into my car.  I got a few tips earlier when I was deciding whether to buy this engineor not, to know if it was possible to put in my 69 Charger.  But now I really need help in getting a complete list of modifications and parts I need to buy so I can get it working in my car.  Im confused about what parts to buy now.. Do I buy for a 1977 engine or buy for a 69 engine?   Just to let you know, right now my car is pretty much stripped clean, so I dont have to worry about adapting exhaust systems.  But I do need to know what type I should buy.   Anyway, a nice list would be really nice to go by.  If anybody has some experience, your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you..

The heads will have smaller valves and the engine will be a much lower compression.  If the engine runs you could use until you find a better setup.  You will need exhaust manifolds, water pump housing, alt and power steering mounting brackets, pulleys, oil pan, valve covers and motor mounts.  That is just to make it fit and run.   :icon_smile_cool:

good luck

The heads in a 77 have 2.08/1.74 valves as does the 69 heads. Dont forget a new oil pickup to go along with 971 stamped oil pan. The valve covers will work, but they are not date correct.  The alternator brackets are fine, but dependent upon what type of power steering brackets you have initially, will decide if you need different ones.  The center dump exhaust manifolds will fit, but are not date code correct nor visually correct.

How can one increase compression in a newer engine like this?  Also would the oil pan from a 68' 383 engine work to replace the truck one?  This was my main question...  when I am buying replacement parts, can I buy them as I were putting them on a 1969 440 or must I specially buy parts for a 1977 440?

the 383 pan wil work , or you can get the Hemi Pan & pick up from Mopar / Mancinis
2 way to increase compression , change the pistons , or go to a head with a smaller combustion chamber liek the 516/ 915 castings
I cannot think of any parts unique to a 77 440 , so the 69-77 parts shoudl all be the same

i personally really like the 516 closed chamber heads...thats what i put on my 413 to up the compression alittle over stock (even stock it had pretty high compression)

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

the water pump housing exits  on the oppsite side on a 77 motor compared to the 69. on the bottom . if your gonna use the 69 rad , your gonna have to change the housing. there cheap on ebay.  Rene
