okay, Let me first say that chevy haters can go screw themselves.  I have my 69 charger, LOVE my charger, had a charger in one form or the other for almost 20 years now.

but I have always been in a chevrolet family.  Had trucks and plenty of malibus and a few chevelles.  Never have worked on a first gen camaro before, but I am becoming a fan.  we got a 68 RS 396 earlier this year and blew it apart, changed the quarters and trunk floor, cleaned and repainted the engine trans and sub frame, re dyed the interior, polished on the stainless, bought a bunch of new parts and are in final assembly as of right now.

My buddy that did all the work to my charger and I are going in on this camaro together.   he has done all the metal work and paint, he is also , ASE certified and teaches school currently.  I have done all the grunt work.  Disassembly, cleaning, sandblasting etc.

today was the day that we fired it for the first time since we took it apart. I am not "a seasoned tech" by any means.  worked on motors with my dad growing up and grasped small block chevrolet's pretty well over the years. Shade tree at best.

I was the one who took the motor apart and painted it and put it back together and rewired it.

we got ready to crank it, and he goes, "well, we'll see how good you did, if it cranks over on the first try, I'll scream like a little girl."

filled the carb up, and turned the key, BOOM, it fired and ran pretty good right where I had the timing at, no issues at all.

He told me that he has seen "seasoned techs" that couldnt get that right half the time.  Made my day.  If anybody is interested, I'll post some pictures of the progress.  If all I get is chevy haters I wont.

either way, we had a lot of things that could have gone wrong that didnt today, with the exception that I put the trans linkage in the wrong hole and we were in reverse instead of park, but since I insisted on getting the rear wheels off the ground, that didnt matter.

I am Happy

if you need a refresher, this is his take on how my charger engine bay should look.  we didnt take the time or money on the camaro, cause we want to sell it and make some $$

Kern Dog

It sure is a jerkoff move to jump in and immediately start insulting people. You don't want hate but you sure start off with a crappy attitude.  :slap:

I would love to see pics of that. with all the new car muscle around, I appreciate all old car muscle. I used to be 100% brand loyal, but these days i'm just glad  to see any the old stuff.

The 396 was Chevy's motor that went BOOM real easy no?  Always loved a '68/ 69 Chevelle x 454 - 4 gear though.

I have to echo Kern Dog though..... when I was a teen I took a LOT of ribbing for being the "poor boy" that's old man could only afford to buy a Chrysler product. Man I'm getting the last laugh on that one... since I still have them!

I'll get you a pic, but basically I am using an electric pump at the tank, bent a hard line sort of in the factory location, but then used the soft line up the back of the motor
