I'm driving from Las Vegas to vermont to pick up a 68 charger and a ton of extra parts from the guy. Taking highway 40 to the 44 then the 70. Any cool mopar junkyards to visit on my journey?

Trulyvintage

If you are pulling a trailer - drop down to I-40 & take that across.

I just came across I-80 from Wisconsin - not the way to go particularly if the weather is bad ...  :scratchchin:

Jim  :chatting:

Lennard

Yeah,  Wisconsin and minesnowta are a mess. My semi used to be white...now it's gray. ;D

VegasCharger

When are you going Chris? That's going to be a haul. Like 2600+ miles. I Google mapped the middle of Vermont as a reference.

Actually I'll be in Ohio during xmas.

Good luck on your travels.

Lennard

He's on the road already. Last night he arrived in Ohio.

cbrestorations

Naw I'll be in Ohio today, I'm trailing you lennard by about 4hrs lol, I was gonna play catchup last night but got too tired.

Tried it plenty times...I'm over it. :-\
It also isn't Charger related if I'm posting pictures of the white scenery.  ;D

skip68

I take it it's hard to do on the road?   Oh well.  Enjoy the drive.  Watch out for the idiots out there cut you off or don't let you over.

Have you been a truck driver...that you know about those idiots?

cbrestorations

If I find any cool mopar stuff I will, maybe the guy in Vermont knows of some places. This forum does suck for posting pics

skip68

No.  But I've been towing trailers forever.  Boats, travel trailers etc.
Not at the scale of what you drive though.    :icon_smile_wink:
That's a bit big for my comfort zone.

I heard that too. Lucky the site is free, right?

Are you doing the Kowalski alertness regimen? Amphetamines and cigarettes?

XS29L

Your going to be a little over an hour south of me. In East Montpellier there is a guy that has a bunch of muscle cars that he wants tons of money for. Some cars are parts car only quality but it's a cool spot to checkout.  When do you expect to be in Vermont.  The weather is very mild for December.
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!

One more thing , make sure to pickup some maple syrup to take home. You'll be glad you didn't !

Kern Dog

I guess that is a NO on the aphetamines.....?

cbrestorations

Lol naw...it definitely was an adventure getting this charger though. Had to go way off the beaten path of vermont, thru two lane dense wooded highway. Then off that 2 lane highway to basically a single lane wide old road thru a town if you sneezed, you passed it. Then down a single gravel road with old old houses. Then down a down hill dog leg single wide muddy dead end road with a steep hill on one end and a creek on the other, that if you stopped, you got stuck. Only to find that I had to turn around and there was no room. We had to disconnect  the trailer and drag it to the side by hand, turn it around and all while in the mud of course...then had to Austin Powers the truck just to end up getting stuck, after that fiasco we man handled the trailer up to the car just to find that the truck couldn't make it up the hill cuz of the mud. Eventually getting up the hill by zig zagging up it. We finally got the car loaded, strapped and kept the mph up when getting out of that mess so I didn't get stuck again.  Talk about out in the sticks...

Lennard

Wow, that doesn't sound like a fun road trip at all. :eek2:

Road trip, you will have tall tells to tell to your friends back home. Make sure you through in some banjo music also. Did you get the green one or the red one. If the red one you could have saved alot of time & shot up North in Ind. & I could have sold you one of mine. We don't do banjo music up here..

cbrestorations

The body is good and bad, as I got closer to vermont and seeing some of the 10+year old cars on the road all rotted out, I started to worry more about the charger, then having to go thru the wooded hilly small towns to get to it made me even more leary. When I got to the car my expectations were not very high and it turned out to be better than even some of the cars I see on the roads still today that should of been condemned lol. It needs trunk, floor, rear 2ft of frame rails, lower rear valance, rocker work, quarter skins, wheel well touch ups and little patches around front and rear glass.

VegasCharger

Looks like you didn't have any severe driving conditions as I don't see any white stuff on the ground.

Have a safe trip back home

EDIT: Hey Chris if you need a 70 grille there's this one near Lexington, KY

http://lexington.craigslist.org/pts/5320361408.html

You could route yourself thru there on the way back just saying.

So what's the ending of the story on the green 68 with 3 on the tree?

The green one is not 3 on the tree, it's console auto. He said hemmings bought the car and gave half down. The green one still needed a mild restoration. For the amount he said they paid for it, I just don't see it...yes it's rare but not desirable to majority.

bakerhillpins

Ah, I must have missed the auto part in the previous discussion.  :2thumbs: Par for the course these days.  :brickwall:

There is supposed to be a pretty cool yard down in that neck of VT but I haven't found it yet.  :scope:

So far on my way back I have picked up a set of 70 fenders, 68 grill, 69 tail lights, gas cap, vega hatch, challenger filler panel, 906 heads, 15x10 pair of vectors, pair of 15x8 vectors, 68 valance and trunk lid. Been burning up craigslist

dayclona1

Chris,

Thanks for stopping in SW Missouri and helping me clear out some room in my shop.  Have a safe trip back to Vegas!  If you know of anyone needing a Daytona deck lid modified by Mike Goyette send them my way.

cbrestorations

Oh I didn't know you were on this forum dave

Kern Dog

Apparantly he is now.

CB....WHERE do you get all this money? We all know these Chargers you post about are not cheap!

cbrestorations

I don't have a wife or kids, I spend $ on meeeeee  ;D

cbrestorations

I got to see what was left of a general lee, you can just barely make out the flag and general lee on the roof. It's stashed away in a poll barn.

Mytur Binsdirti

You're lucky you came & went when you did. Central & northern VT got their first real snow overnight (heavy coating - 3"). I drove up to Burlington VT & back today & my truck was a friggin mess from all the road salt and dirt.   :eek2:

XS29L

Did you go up rt.7 or I 89. Snowed a little yesterday but the roads were clear today.
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!

cbrestorations

yea i went thru a one week window of nice weather, i got lucky. yes all those parts were just from the one trip. i was completely loaded.  i took the 40 to the 44, then the 71 to the 80, then i think it was the 87 north. i had to drop off a beetle in new york first, that paid for the trip.

cbrestorations

once i got far north east i noticed there wasnt much of any charger stuff on craigslist, that and lack of space in the towns...not trailer friendly

Kern Dog

What was the asking price for those 1970 fenders?

cbrestorations

i spent 900 on the fenders, i have 3 spare sets of 70 fenders now. i plan on building a daytona restomod eventually. i need a set of 69 fenders for my b5 r/t now

I cut across from Meredith NH on my way to Burlington & the northern interior was a mess. I saw as much as 3" in the higher elevations. When I finally made it to Rt 89, the spray from other cars was awful. Just about ran empty on my washer fluid.
