Has anyone used Dupli color for their engine?
Will the caramic 1200 degree versus the regular 500 degree engine paint be a good or bad idea?
Is generic Orange going to freak out any of the Mopar purists?

I used the Mopar brand engine enamal paint and it seems to have worked fine, no complaints. I had a leaky water neck that damaged the paint from rad fluid. Preperation is the key as with any paint job, I also learned that lesson.

whats the best way to prep it and clean it? I plan on painting my 360, but its all greasy and the old blue paint is still on it.

well...     degreaser, soap and water, (I've used a wire wheel before) then put the engine under heat lamps to get a bit warm then primer and paint.....    let dry under the lamps.

I was happy with the Bill Hirsch line of paints. I bought it through Hughes Engines but you can get it elsewhere. The Mopar stuff seemed thinner to me when I painted a 383 last year.

I used a wire brush/wire wheel on a drill and used brake cleaner to degrease it. Worked wonders. For a final cleaning I used more brake cleaner and wiped it down real good. I didn't prime it but it's not a bad idea. You may not get all the old paint off, but if it's not a major concern don't worry about it.

Mopar engine paint will require at least 5-7 coats, goes on very thin so stock up on at least 5 cans. Make sure its warm outside min. 65-degrees and wait at least 5-10 minutes between coats.

I've had good luck with the spray can Duplicolor Ceramic. Good to 500 degrees. A lot more solids than the Mopar paint, so it goes far. The Mopar orange is a pretty good match (per my male vision of color coordination). It does discolor at the exhaust ports like any other paint....

After the block is prepped remember to use several very light coats, as most light colored high temp paints are thinner and thus, runnier than darker colors like black.  3 lights coats will last longer than one or two thicker coats.
