Steering pump pressure & hydroboost

Just thinking out loud here...if I shim the steering pump to reduce pressure and increase road feel, will it affect the pressure to a hydroboost unit?

Depends on where it currently is, and how much you drop it. Also what did the hydro setup come off of? As long as you stay in the 950-1000 psi range, the hydro should feel the same.

I didn't get the hydro unit yet, still looking at the options.  That said the Chevy Astro unit is a prime candidate.  The plan was to drop the pressure on the pump as much as possible.  I think dropping it to 1000 psi should be a huge improvement though.  My pump's in good shape and there are no steering issues, I just would like some more road feel.

I wonder if the hydro boost units on diesel trucks will work?

Wouldn't the hydro boost eliminate the need for adjusting line pressure?

I suppose they would.  Hopefully someone else can chime in on that.

You mean would the hydroboost reduce pressure to the steering pump?  I don't know if it would, I don't think so.

Pressure is the same regardless of hydro or not. My suggestion would be to add 1 or 2 shims and see how it drives. Thats the joy, its so simple to do and experiment with what works.
