The Ghoul

Another year gone.
Im currently 24, still living at home, still going to school, making $10/hour..... This is starting to get pathetic..

ah well.

Treated my self right tho.
I just picked up a new sony head unit, infinity 2 way rear speakers, infinity componet front speakers, and a 300watt amp for the fronts for my daily driver... Nice sounding little set up..
the only issue is; sence the speakers sound so crisp so loud I end up listening to my music way too loud!!!
I am very happy with this set up and sence the $500 for it went on the credit cart it will be the gift that keeps on giving !!

Shakey

Happy Birthday pal!

Sounds like you treated yourself to a nice gift.

happy b day, keep the music down or you wont be hearing much later on in life.  do not take your hearing for granted or you wont have hearing to use later on in life.

I am finally out of credit card debt though, took me 7 years to pay that sucker off.($6000)  I'd stop using it if i were you.  but thats what people told me at that age and i didnt listen...

I was only in debt for $600 before putting this stuff on the plastic..
The main reasion I went ahead and splurged is because I knew I wouldnt have an excuse  to get this stuff over the summer when I am putting in extra hours to pay it off.
From here on out the only thigns going on the cards are new tires, or a new clutch (depends if it gets worse or not.)
Im deathly affrade of getting too far in debt so Im going to watch my self on that one.
Sound advice tho, thank you.

Happy BD!

Time to sorta start thinking about your future(old person talk coming).

Engineers are a dime a dozen and you MUST be one of the sharper ones to land a good paying job, that so many students think they will land upon graduation. Outsourcing work-both blue and white(you) collar is not going to stop anytime soon. The tech jobs are the ones going now aka-your future job.
Get a couple more tattoos and take motorcycle repair..be a crotch ;) rocket repairman. I think you will be disappointed if continue with your current education.
Before you slam me and say your smarter than what you let on, save it. I am not trying to be "mean"  its just I don't think your cut out for what your studding.  A professor BTW will blow smoke up your ass all day since your paying his\her salary.

I could have PM you this but I think others, if they want, may want to add or disagree with me.

Also nice rice :icon_smile_approve: I was thinking of getting a Subaru Outback 2.5 turbo myself but got the truck. Next time I just might get an outback unless the Challenger is made.

you'r right I am smarter than I let on  :icon_smile_big:
I have been noticing the trends in outsorcing and the fact that over half my schoolmates are engineering students, and I have been worried about it.
I think the baby boomers that are up for retirement in the next couple of years will help even out the issue.
I will never regrett finishing a degree... in any thing.
That and I pritty much have a lock on a full time job with the US army when I finish.
I think you can see by what I have done so far automotive wise that Im not just book smart witch will give me a big edge over the people that Im going to school with.
Oddly enough there were alot more book smart/street dumb engineering students at western than there are a the community college level.

Yeah I dig that little RS... Its just too weak for my taste now, so the turbo system is getting pieced together bit by bit.

I'm a sophomore Mechancal Engineering student.  I have quite a few friends that are seniors and are graduating in May or at the end of the fall semester.  There are 2 things I have learned from them about getting a job.  First is a 3.0 gpa.  Anything much less than that and no company will hardly look at you.  Second is make your resume stand out.  By that I mean get on some deal that makes you be a leader or work with a team.  I work on a minibaja team (see my avatar pic).  One senior that I know flat out said that if it wasn't for the baja car he wouldn't have gotten the job he did.  It's the little things that stand out.  You have to work as a part of a team, even if you hate someone's guts, and if you can't do that, even if you have a 4.0, the employers don't want you.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

Serious statement when I was younger & invincible (like all young guys) I listened to ZZ Top & Zeppelin always cranked all the way up, followed by 4 years in a Navy fast frigate machinery room, then about 16 years in construction, never giving it a thought....Now, at 40 (last saturday woo hoo!) my wife has to repeat almost everything she says. My kids all roll their eyes & say I'm not listening, but it sucks... :'(

What do you want me to say?
I perusing something that I feel I will be good at because I can present another view to the same old situation.
I have found thus far in 3 years as and engineering aid for the us army and 2 years as a draft's men at a ma-and-pop shop that allot of the issues faced by the shop is common sense stuff that the engineers didn't catch.  I feel I would be great at the job because I very commonly catch these things before the prints are sent to the floor. This is just one of many reasons I feel the way I do about this.

I know you're trying to shake me here into considering something else that might be better suited to my skill set; but this is all I know!!
I understand that mechanics, and body men make decent livings but I want to keep that stuff as a hobby. I don't want to view it as work and therefore not want to do it on my free time.

I stink at biology and chemistry.
the business world frustrates me.
I don't care too much for programming or any thing IT related when it comes to computers... that and India seems to be getting most of those jobs.
I'm not big or strong enough to be any good to any construction company.

So I have two options at this point get into a job where I can start working at the bottom and hope I don't get cut because I have no degree; or keep going the rout I am and get a degree. Even if what I end up doing down the road has nothing to do with engineering I still have a piece of paper that sez that I jumped through all the hoops and stuck with something till the end.

I'm sorry if I sound touchy about this, but this is the last thing that needs to be on my mind. I have a calc 2 exam and a physics exam tomorrow and I am just starting on what appears to be along night.

I didn't know about the Army service and if so I would have not mentioned some of what I said. Its common for people to assume they will get this or that but if it is a sure thing then go for it.

It's pritty much a cavilian position working for the us army in one of there robotics groups. I worked for them for 3 years than I was put into one of there student programs, which was cancled, along with the program I was in, so I was layed off. My bosses fought tooth and nail for me but they couldnt make it happen.
So it sits like that untill I have enough credits to qualify for there co-op program.

They always told me I have a job there when I get the degree, but your right they could just be blowing smoak up my arse or they might not be the bosses when I get the paper.  I am sure that I have friends in all the right places when I graduate.
