Can I just plug the inbound hose to the heater core off and leave the hose from the Heater core back to the water pump unplugged and everything be ok? Or do I have to plug both hoses off the water pump?

cdr

get a connector & connect them together, or as long as the valve on the firewall is not leaking you can hook both hoses to the valve. as in take the u shaped hose off & hook the other engine side hose there.
