i did my first attempt at restoring a woodgrain wheel today, have to say it came out purdy decent. the spokes had bad pitting and rust so i ground down the rust with a 180 wheel, then a 320, then hit them with a wire wheel to clean up sanding scratched then finished with a brillow pad, spokes came out awesome with a nice brushed finish shine, i didnt go the easy route and aluminum paint them like some of the so called restored wheels on ebay lol. then i epoxy puddy filled the craters in the wheel, waited till hard and then sanded down. next i painted the wheel a camel tan then a brown right after. to get the grain look i poured thinner on a rag then ran a paint brush across the thinner soaked rag. i brushed the steering wheel bringing out the inner camel tan color. looks cool, i have all the trim and spokes taped up, when i took the pics it was still drying.

Excellent timing, was just thinking about what to do to clean my wheel up, seems I got overspray on it when painting car with windshield out.  got most of it off using steel wool, but still need to get color back, so will be watching yours.

Great job CB, can you give more info on what paint you used? I really like how that came out. My wheel is nice, but the plastic is starting to rot and smell a little so I would love to re finish it.   :popcrn:

i just used what i had in my cabinet which was camel tan for the base and then leather brown for the top coat
