Drove the 'Bird up to Philly yesterday to pick this up from George Trosley. He created this CARtoons center-spread of me and Jeannie leaving Krass & Bernie's garage / small engine repair. Even got a pic of George in the car he drew.

That's a cool piece to have!   :2thumbs:  (on a side note, a high school auto shop teacher nicknamed myself and my shop partner Krass and Bernie back in the 70's but I don't recall the incident that provoked it)

If you were anything like me in high school, it was probably more than ONE incident!  LOL

You're probably right Pettymower.

That is superb.   A fantastic one of a kind piece.

That's awesome....  but what is the whole story?  You are friends with Trosley,or how did this come about? If you don't mind me asking of course.

A few months ago, I finished building the trailer to pull the Petty mowers behind the 'Bird. I stood back, looked at it, and a cartoon image popped into my head.....and it was in the Krass & Bernie style. I thought it would be neat to have the vision on paper. So, I originally was going to find a local artist that could duplicate that particular style.

Then it hit me....maybe George Trosley is still alive!  LOL  I mean this is a cartoonist from my childhood, you never know. I searched for a contact number, and found his email address. And he agreed to do the artwork for me. I was thinking, "I'm a genius! I'll bet no one has thought to get up with him for this type of project. This is going to be too cool!"

Well, come to find out he does this kind of stuff for a living. He also does flyers for car shows, advertisements, whatever you want.

Real nice guy, and I LOVE the drawing!!!  Having Krass & Bernie included is a bonus.

PS. The original artwork is 13" x 11" and has raised white letters on the 'Bird's tires. This image is an 8-1/2" x 11" copy. He also through in the original 13" x 11" sketch of his rough draft concept.

LOL  it is genius! And it's really cool to see he is still kicking out the great artwork. Man I loved that magazine and Trosley stuff was the best. I remember there were iron-ons included sometimes.

That is a great piece to have.    :scratchchin:

My Mother Dated the Editor of Cartoons, Dennis Ellefson, I got free magazines and some cool art, which I will never be able to find..

Glad you all like the artwork. Obviously, I'm a little partial and LOVE IT!  LOL  It was really cool to have something in my head become the real deal. First with the trailer, and now with the art. I'll have the others scanned soon, and upload them. It's neat to see his original rough draft only done with a pencil, no color.....just a layout for placement.

Many times I had my Mom iron on CARtoons / Krass & Bernie iron-ons onto my shirts when I was a kid.

While hanging out with George this weekend, he talked about the day he received the phone call in 1991, from the Editor, "They killed the magazine, Man!"

Recently someone in Canada purchased the rights to CARtoons, and is trying to bring it back to life.
