Wet behind the ears alludes to innocence and/or ignorance. the reason is....Newborn babies are innocent and don't know much yet. In addition, since they just popped out, they are WET behind the ears.

This is a turd in the punchbowl. Do NOT ask "how are you?" unless you are genuine about it. Yeah, I get it. It is a greeting to begin a conversation. Why not start with...."Hello, good to speak with you." Instead of  "Hello, how are you?"
