Okay guys, My brother just found and bought a 1968 Coronet R/T. 440 4 bbl. 4 speed Dana 60, bucket seat, non console, non ralley dash with the square tach, 27,000 original miles, one owner, Gold with verticle stripe(non R/T stripe), non vynil roof, black interior, am radio, real survivor. Car has original spark plugs, all wax markings are there, this car is like a time capsule. It has all original motor tranny rear everything exept the heater hoses and original tire. We have restored a lot of MOPARS in our time but this is different for us. We don't know really how to clean it up, need a gas tank but don't know if we should replace with NOS or fix the original. We have a bunch of questions as to what to do with the car and what it is worth. I will post some pics as I get them. Just looking for some advise as to how to handle this TRUE survivor? Thanks in advance. And yes it runs and drives beautifully every gauge and light works. It was an early car and still has the shifter with the T pull up for reverse that works great. All help, suggestions and opinions are welcome.

There is a growing popularity in showing true "barn finds" complete with dirt as you found it.  However, IMHO you should restore it back to the way it rolled off the line, drive and enjoy it.

I'll give you my opinion when I see pix, but sounds like a pretty neat car. :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:

We do have some pics as we pulled it from the dust... but here it is cleaned up/washed.

Looks good from the first pic.  I say fix what needs fixed and just leave it as a survivor.

This thing is wild.  It is like stepping back in time.  I learned a lot looking at how the 'factory' did things.  Kinda rough :nana:

I was wondering what it might be worth to a "true" collector cause this is a 99% original R/T.  Only thing changed is brakes, tires, and heater hoses.  The original owner said he bought it in 1967 and had a choice between a hemi 67 charger and the new line R/T.  He said the new body just blew him away and he bought the R/T as you see it.  He drove it for 12 years very seldom and no rain or snow them parked it in 1979.

Like I said... this is not my expertise!  Does anyone out there know a "survivor" guy?  I don't want to do anything dumb to the car and I have my other toys to drive so I don't hurt this one.  Can anyone put me in touch with a Survivor person for some advise?  Thanks in advance.   :shruggy:

I'm wondering if there is a " survivor person" that has advice for you. If you find some one person that says they are,-- what is the value of their opinion??
Their are many knowledgeable folks on this site and other sites (FBBO for example). A consensus of many opinions is the best gauge.

The question about WIW can't be answered by any one person or even a group of those that know these cars intimately. :shruggy:

I have my own opinion about "survivors"---In this case (from what I've seen and you have described) this is a very nice car that deserves the term "survivor"
It also has some desirable options and identity. I'ts value for some could be great and for 99.9% of the world it is just a curiosity or much less. :slap:

The bottom line about value is hooking up with the right person that sees it and is moved to be the next caretaker.

So if you (or your brother) are one of those that really likes what you have (I would cause I'm partial to the coronets) I would keep, preserve, and enjoy that great piece of history. If you are looking to cash in on it's ultimate value--good luck in the enjoyment you find in doing that and I hope you have great things planed for the money you may get.

My input and comments are strictly mine and come from my interest in the hobby side of owning cars like this as opposed to scrambling for a dollar at every turn.

It has been said many times in various ways that trying to make a living out of this hobby will bring disappointment. Our making a living allows for the hobby. :Twocents:

Yeah factory assembly line vs, perfectionist 3 year restos on a single car.

Awesome car!  One way to possibly gauge value is throw it out to a large audience (ebay) with a really high reserve and see where it lands.    :shruggy:

Nothing wrong  with pointing out the giant elephant over in the corner.  I didn't have the stones.
Hope the old guy wasn't sleeping.

Whats wrong with flipping it?   :shruggy:

NOTHING.  No one said anything was wrong with flipping it.  Make $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollars off of it on ebay, for all I care.  Just be honest about it..

To flip or not to flip, who gives a flip???
That is one really cool car.
I'd pull the original tank, clean it, and box it up.
Install a nice repro tank and get it running right.

If you bought it right you should be able to make a nice little profit on it.
I agree with Dave.  Get it running right.   It's worth more if it's a driver.    :2thumbs:
