Well, um... those sidemarker trim pieces still look good....

I have never seen a k-frame break like that.   :rotz:

I would buy that car, there are lots of good parts left on it.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

I bet he didn't make it unless he was wasted.  The damage to the shifter and steering wheel, not to mention the lack of proper seatbelting back then, don't give much hope.  Looks like they popped the passenger door with the jaws of life, probably to get the driver out.

To my eyes it looks like they had to pry the dash up as well, probably pinned the driver.

Does it look like it was clipped on the drivers side fender by a mac truck or a train?

Wakko

I disagree.  From the consistent bend of the steering wheel, shifter and the pried up dash, I bet the driver did that with his body.  Nore how the steering wheel is pushed in an inch in addition to being split. His chest cavity would have been crushed against the wheel and then his body rolled over and up, probably smooshing his ribs into his organs and smashing his head against the windshield and roof.  Train theory is a bust but the truck theory is quite possible.  He was movin' though, based on the crumping from the rest of the car.  My guesstimate is that he was doin a good 60 mph when he hit a vehicle head on but on a slight angle.  The Charger stopped, the driver kept going at 50-60.  Look at the frame rails...they're bent UP and over.  If he was doin' 60 and the other guy was doin 60....holy ouchers.  :icon_smile_dead:

BTW, did you take those pics?  If so, get the VIN?  Be a good idea to register it.

I see what you are saying now, his body was basically pole vaulted by the steering wheel/coloum and as the column lifted him upward, everything bent the dash up.

Looks like the vIN tag is gone (lighter tan where it was)

Wakko

I was thinking the black paint faded away from the weather and was just plain aluminum.  I could be wrong though.

In all seriousness, I drive my Charger slow since I'm scared of getting in a crash.  I have that identical steering wheel in my car and no seatbelts.  Even a 30mph hit would be damaging.  Even when I install my lapbelts it won't do a whole lot.  One more argument for a loop and a five point!  :)

I'd buy that car if you could get it cheap enough. There's actually a lot of useful stuff to be had. Those seat cores are pretty valuable, plus the trim and marker lights, heck, even the back bumper looks pretty good all things considered. Seatbelts, package tray, Dutchman panel, trunk hinges, rear window, a few A/C items still, etc. I'd like to have that wheel lip moulding that's sitting on the driver's seat.

BTW, that's a cool wrecking yard. Lots of classics and semi-classics out there. Where is it?

Crazy Larry

It looks like the steering wheel was shoved right up in the driver's delicate area.
:o
Ouch indeed!

TruckDriver

I seen a '69 that was way worse then this one once. The firewall was pushed back to the front seat location. The roof and floor was rippled like a accordion and there was blood all over in the front seat area. The car looked like it hit a wall head on at 70mph :icon_smile_dead: It was a fresh arrival at the junk yard I was in.

Man that looks painful.

Here is another 2nd gen smoked hard in the front.

Wow!! There's a bunch of Mopars in that field! Some of the trim looks in pretty good shape. I agree, that must of been some hit to bend a K frame like that. :rotz:

Wow hard hit, thats a bad day! I agree that the vin tag appears to be on the dash still. What a little gold mine that boneyard appears to be!!

Yeah I took those pics about a month ago.  If I remember right the VIN tag was gone.  I will double check, since im going back out there Saturday anyways.  If its there i'll get the number.  If its not, where else could I find it on that car?  Its not a junkyard its at a guys house, so im not going to give up its location but I will ask what he wants for it.  Its the guy I bought my 73 from.  The way I understand it, that car has been there for years.   The guy was running from the cops and hit a pole.  Didnt die either, at least thats what I have heard.

:bawling:  every time I see one in this condition...I have to agree about the parts, seems like there's still some  pieces that could be useful...not much though :icon_smile_wink:

What state are you in? Looks like the rolling hills of upstate NY or Ohio.

That's a guys' back yard? Sweet...my 12 year old son would go nuts over that. He wants our yard to look like that. I dont think my neihbors would agree though. ;D

Charger_Fan

Man, that's a hell of a hit. :o
Judging from the front end carnage, I'm betting there was something else involved than just a pole...and if that guy survived, I bet he currently hurts worse than Evel Knievel. ;D

Cool pics though, albeit sad ones. :-\

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Bandit72

if i ever get around to it i'll take pictures of my local mopar buddys parts 69...the story is the kid was hot rodding it around and somehow slid off the road and slammed into a concrete bridge rail...the front end is pretty messed up....

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,

just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....
