Well my old vacuum can finally died, the car has been stumbling and not acting like itself lately and I couldn't figure out why until today. It has been running rough and I thought maybe the fuel filter was stopped up or I got a bad tank of gas. I replaced the fuel filter and check out the carb good and all was well there, I decided to swap the pump squirter's on the carb from 31's up to 35's and it really didn't like that so I swapped them back down to 28's and it seemed better but still something wasn't right. Was leaning over around the battery and could hear a good vacuum leak so I was checking my vacuum hoses going to my headlight actuator's and there wasn't very much vacuum going to them and I could still hear a good leak somewhere around the battery when it finally hit me... the vacuum can!! It had completely came apart around the seam's on one end of it. I plugged the vacuum line off coming from the brake booster tee and it started running normal again!!  :icon_smile_big:  Had me scratching my head for a min!! I forgot that stupid thing was under there, I see where classic industries has a new one for a hundred bucks and is fine with me as long as it works properly. I don't mind to spend money as long as the part's are good quality. Was also gonna check on here too and see if anybody has one the might part with that is in good condition. Thanks

Dino

I've run across them on ebay and cl if you want to save a few bucks.  You could also get a tomato or coffee can and transplant the connector and brackets but that might be more work than you're willing to do.  Any chance you can reweld yours or is it too far gone?

you can also get the round plastic ones from the newer cars & Jeeps....it's not 100% stock, but they don't rust out

Gonna get a friend at work tomorrow that is a really good welder to see if he can do anything with it, if not I may just order a new one. I can't complain I guess since it has lasted so many years before it blew out!!

Are they any cheaper from Charger Specialties or PG Classics?

Keep your can if you're into OEM and just bypass it.  Has anyone ever needed that vacuum reserve that the can provides?

Except to show people at a gas station where the headlights are without starting up the car?  Never had a use for it.  Well maybe once or twice when I forgot to turn them off, but that nuclear warning buzzer is a reminder not to repeat that too often.   :eek2:

Well we tried to do some mig welding on my old can today and it burnt thru pretty easily so we decided to go the JB weld route. We put some of that on there and after 6 or 8 hours it seemed pretty dry so I sprayed that end of the can with some rubberized under coating. Gonna give it a couple more coats of the under coating tomorrow. On another note I called classic industries and asked if the item was in stock and ready to ship and he said it was in stock so I have a new one on the way.

This conversation reminded me of a vacuum can I have that was on my C500 when I bought it in 1982. It was mounted under the battery tray. I wish I had taken pictures of how things were back then. :slap:
I've wondered about this for years?  Is it right for a 69? Is it odd or out of place to be on a C500?

A383Wing

probably fergot to remove it during the conversion to a 500

That one is a little short and mounted differently look's like, would probably still function the same but another member has one I am going to purchase also to have a spare.
