Childhood dream came true, I now own a '68 Charger (project)!

A true barn find! Here's the kicker... its a R/T, least as far as I can possibly tell. Imagine my surprise when i looked at the dash VIN, fender tag and saw the XS29 on there! The radiator support and trunk lid match the fender tag. All metal appears to be original with very little rust. The guy I bought it from had it setting in his barn for over 25 years. (most) parts, dash, trim, glass, bumpers, grill, lights, and interior came with the car. Came with the original 727 and rear end. Unfortunately the original 440 is long gone. It will be a long process to get it back on the road, but my intentions are to take it as close to original condition as possible. Anywho, just wanted to jump on here, introduce myself and see what you all thought about my barn fresh '68 R/T!? Another one will be saved!

I really need to change that picture as all of those cars have been sold and replaced.  And you need to post more pictures of your charger!
Thanks

No luck on finding a build sheet as of yet. So far I've only looked behind the glove box, under all seats, behind the seat panels. The bench and bucket seat vinyl is too far gone, so eventually when the vinyl is pulled off I'm hoping to find one under there?!  :shruggy:

Welcome from west of you in mo. Your car looks like a great project.

MO68CHARGER

Currently I'm doing inventory of all usable original parts. I'll dig through the forms, but any suggestions for the best parts suppliers? Original and repop.  Trying to keep as original as possible but will have to find/replace some things. This car had the fold down center console.. which is apparently missing. :/ i'm sure that won't be the easiest to replace.

You mean the buddy seat with armrest?  They're not hard to find but don't buy the first one you see, they can be had in very good shape for not much money.

Yes, that is it. I wasn't aware they were interchangeable with other mopars of that era. Thanks for the heads up!

nvrbdn

I actually seen 3 of the buddy seats in a junk yard in Arizona when I was out there about a year ago.

One of the best upgrades to can make would be new wiring. YearOne sells the best plug and play original factory repop wiring.

If you have original wiring that should be almost mandatory. :yesnod:

Yes, it's all original wiring. And being that all the wiring for the car came stuffed in plastic bag, I'll be buying the kit!

MO68CHARGER

Well overdue for an update on my car! Spent the last year or so doing the body work. She is now painted! Once we stripped her down we realized how much crappy body work was covered up ended up doing it right and put two new fenders, two new full quarters and new deck lid on. All good solid metal now! Went with the factory original 331 red. Very happy with how it turned out. In the process of building the 440 now. Really hoping to start her up this summer! I'll post a few pics...

Look's great!!! Is it me or does that red look orange?? Can't go wrong with new quarter's and new front fender's!! I did the same thing on my charger, I drove it for several year's with lot's of body filler in the quarter's. Finally put two new quarter's and two new fender's on mine too. Did you find a correct year 440? I know around my area 440's are pretty hard to come up with especially if you are looking for a specific year model. Keep us posted on your progress!!!  :2thumbs:

MO68CHARGER

It does look orange in the bright sun. We had the color mixed according to the PPG codes to match the original 331 "red". From what I can tell they weren't many painted that color in 68. It's a really bright color but I love it. Found a 1970 stamped 440 that is at the machine shop right now. Getting excited to get the motor in it!

Thanks guys. It's pretty cool seeing it come together. The  truck pulling it is my buddy's '72 forest service with a cummins swap. Great tow rig! Picking up up grill tomorrow from Rod Glaser in Ozark, MO. he was recommended to me on this forum and has been great to work with.
