Gone in 60 Seconds II?

I think the 'II' is a typo.  Here's a quick recap:

1974 Gone in 60 Seconds
Mediocre story and acting about car thieves leading double lives as insurance investigators.  Despite this the second half of the movie is probably the best bang-for-the-buck car chase sequence ever done.

1982 The Junkman
A weird meta-film where H.B. Halicki, at least at the beginning, more or less sensationalizes his own real-life experience of filming Gone in 60 Seconds.  The movie shows off a lot of his own cars, toy collection, and properties.

1983 Deadline Auto Theft
This one could be called "Gone in 60 Seconds II" ...almost.  It uses the same opening sequence of The Junkman (with a Bricklin ending up in the L.A. River), some newly shot footage, and some unused footage and most of the car chase footage from the original Gone in 60 Seconds all in to a slightly more watchable movie.  The newly shot footage tries to give the movie more of a protagonist with Hoyt Axton as police captain out to get Maindrian Pace (Halicki).

Gotcha, and I have to agree; I've gone so far as to say it's a better chase scene than Bullitt.    :o :Twocents:

GONE IN 60 SECONDS 2,,,NOT  II............Was 3 months into filming when Halicki was killed . The big semi chase ends with his truck hitting the leg of a 160 foot tall water tower.  it fell ,he died making his 4th movie.
GONE 2 also has the slicer in it. a very low, powerful wedge ,craft thats unstoppable.

The whole water tower, to power line to power pole falling on him a quarter mile away was straight out of Final Destination. When your number is up, your number is up.
Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not;  a sense of humor to console him for what he is.      Francis Bacon

That's it.  Youtube quality is a bit less than DVD.  Either way it's worth a watch.

In case anyone doesn't know, that yellow Mustang being bashed up is one single prop car for the whole chase.   No backup/stunt copies of it.

The movie obviously had a second nice one for some scenes.  The nice one was used for some of the in-car shots during the chase.  But there was only ever one single car getting all that body damage.  They caged & braced it up heavily before filming started and repaired it as they went.

The car is still around today.  Still runs.  They toured around with it to promote the movie.

The lightpole hit was a real accident.

The whole movie was a pretty illegal amateur shoot, and they didn't close most of the roads they were filming on.  They mostly went out on sunday mornings because Halicki had learned that the city's film crew permit-checker didn't work then.  The crew brought their own bystander cars to be the ones surrounding the action and just winged it.
