Fuel tank info needed (thanks to tow truck driver)

Hi Everyone,

Had a rough day Saturday.

I was trying to attend the Slant Six meetup in Redwood City. I got my car back after a front end rebuild and it needed an alignment really bad. Found a mopar guy who could  align it on Saturday, so I could make it to the show on Sunday.

AAA driver shows up and loads the Charger on the flatbed tail first, seems fine. I follow him to the shop and notice that the hook eyes on the chain are pushing into the gas tank, causing a big leak! Man was I angry. I looked close and saw the the hook was also on top of a brake line junction block. I almost lost it then.

The tow company owner assures me he will cover all repairs.

I need some recommendations for tanks, and all the rest of the stuff. A parts list would be awesome, or is there a vendor that sells a comprehensive kit?

I saw a stainless tank on ebay that looks awesome. Has anyone used one?

The car is a 1968 Charger, slant six (I know, I know).

If this is on the wrong board, please move it to the correct one.

Thanks,

John D

What an A$$HOLE!

I bought a Spectra fuel tank cause of all the good reviews it has. It looks like a quality piece.

Well that's a bummer!   :brickwall:

I've got a stainless tank currently on my 69. They look and fit great.  :2thumbs:

John D,

Man, I hope you are not embarrassed about the /6 or somehow assume we think less of you for it.... On the contrary, I think they are cool and would be glad to own one.   :yesnod:

Sorry to hear of the towing accident, Be glad they didn't hook the frame and tear it out as is common with transport companies. Can't help with the parts list but just had to comment on the above.

I have a Spectra fuel tank now, but will change over to a stainless, the same one on eBay.

Thanks for the nice words on the slant guys, I like it too. It takes a while to get going fast but it does great once it's there. My first car was a 69 Charger R/T, so I know what the fast ones are like. This one is fun too.

I see Dante's Parts has a fuel tank kit for $310, with $120 upgrade to a stainless tank and stainless straps. I think I'm going to try and get that out of the guy.

I still have to check out the brake lines and see if they're wrecked.

Are the senders from Dantes the correct ohm range for a stock gauge? I've read threads that say it's hard to find a new sender that works right.

Did your fuel sender work correctly, pre tow, in the first place?

Assuming the parts were in good shape to begin with, all you need is the tank and the filler neck grommet.  The rest you can reuse.  If the sender read correctly then keep it!  The sender seal comes with the new tank.  I bought my tank from Vans but it was not SS. $107 shipped I believe.  I also bought new straps and J bolts totalling around $40.  The filler neck grommet was around $10 or so.  I made my own tank padding out of toolbox shelf liner as I forgot to order the oem type stuff.

dual fours-

Not really.

I redid the faces on my gauges and recalibrated them but none of them have really worked right, I think its a circuit board problem, I should have bought a new one. Just reinstalling the cluster was tough, taking it back out will suck.

Dino-

That's much less than the Dantes kit price, good to know, thank you. My tank and everything else are pretty wrecked looking, I have doubts about the sender working right.
